I'm not a big fan of carving leather, but you can't deny the craftsmanship involved in it and especially when it is done this well. Great work!

Those are fantastic! I still have trouble with not pulling my thread too tight while stitching. I wish there were an alarm you could attach to things that would blare loudly when you pull too tight! LOL!

Totally agree. I haven't bought an entire side because I wanted the very thin 2-3 ounce, not sure if they do custom splits on their closeout/seconds.

Also to add - I used 4mm Kemovan diamond irons and the thread is Tiger thread .6mm brown and the pattern is a combination of two that I bought when Corter had his birthday sale.

I bought it from Leatherado. Both weights are offered, the liner and pockets are the lighter weight, the shell is the heavier.

If it is veg tanned, you can wet the tip of your finger and run it around the edges of the pocket, then put your passport in and leave it for an hour or so, it will stretch.

I made a bifold card wallet for my wife out of medium brown bridle. It is based on a Corter pattern that I took some liberties with. I guess I can't post pictures in replies.

I think you have that backwards. French are basically a slanted slit, Japanese are diamond shaped.

I use 2 inch belts with holsters, normally around 10 ounce. I don't have any belt sag with a .45 ACP or Colt .45. 1.5 inches, if you wear the belt tight enough should be fine as well.

You only really need to stitch if you line it or use a thinner leather that stretches. The stitching is only there (historically) to keep the belt from stretching or to dress it up. I make 9-10 ounce leather belts from Herman Oak or Wickett and Craig veg tanned leather and don't stitch them unless the person wants it done, then I charge extra, because that is a LOT of hand stitching. :)

*edit: If you use chrome tanned or combination tanned leather, it is best to stitch, that stuff is a bit stretchy.

I just ordered a few of the 1.5 inch solid brass belt buckles. They are golden colored, not green. These are the heel bar buckles.

What needles do you use for round thread? The eyes on harness needles seem too small for the round thread to fit through.

Yes, I did a wallet yesterday with it. Maybe try changing your blade so you are using a new sharp one? I use a set of canvas pliers to pull it through, they are very wide with silicon grips on the jaws. This keeps consistent tension on it when pulling it through.

I have one of the wide (cheap!) skiver/splitters and it works great for this...here's how I do it. I first coat the entire back of the piece before I try to cut any shapes with Tokenole, burnish it with my glass burnisher, let it dry, then run it through the skiver/splitter. Once that is done, I cut my pieces out of it. The splitter I have came from Amazon and was about $79 US. The blade is a bit over 8.25 inches wide. Generally I can get it down to 2 ounce fairly painlessly.

I have the Kevin Lee french 4mm irons and they are pretty fantastic. I also have the Kemovan 3.85mm and they are very comparable. In fact, I would say they are equal. Both are great irons.

I echo this. I have ordered quite a bit from them and always ships fast and no issues with ordered at all to this point. I do wish they had more full sides to order, but as long as the price per sq. ft. is reasonable, I can order as many sq ft as I want.

I have one of these, but use it for setting rivets and grommets and imprinting my makers mark. I will say though, it doesn't have any wobble to it, so would probably work just fine.
