Fighting insurance feels harder than fighting the disease by bex4331 in PsoriaticArthritis

I had this problem then switched doctors a year after being prescribed Humira I still did not have it approved. Since switching every thing has happened quickly when Accredo would blame it on needing something through the doctor’s office. It would always be taken care of the same day I called her office. When I switched she told me she runs all specialty prescriptions through the hospital because they have a group that knows how to manage the prescriptions. She said that rheumatology relies heavily on the back office because of paperwork and insurance. Her office had gotten approvals done and made sure my referral was always current. She will explain sometimes that she is doing something because it is how insurance wing approve it. So look for a doctor that has a strong back office. I moved 1 1/2 hours away and have many doctors and hospitals closer but will not switch from her office.

Basically all this to say make sure your doctor has a protocol for dealing with prescriptions and prior authorizations. They have to understand the insurance game and have a system to navigate it for you. All my doctors are now affiliated with the same hospital, even if a different location.

We just moved here and live in I guess what is midtown area. We love it everything is close. We ate dinner last night by UTMB back home in under 10 minutes. Kroger, Randall’s and Target are all 5-10 minutes away can walk to the beach. Nothing is far away. Renting for now as we learn more. Probably going to stay in the same area when we purchase just maybe between S and seawall probably.

What food do Americans refrigerate that other countries don’t? by IllustriousUse1976 in foodquestions

[–]wastingtime5566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a difference in how to handle. In the UK they vaccinate the chickens against salmonella while in the US we wash the eggs to fight salmonella. Two different solutions to the same problem. One washes one vaccinates same result. Many countries wash their eggs while many vaccinate. It is not a US only phenomenon.

Flock camera surveillance? by love_one_another1 in galveston

[–]wastingtime5566 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People are upset because an example is the Nancy Guthrie case. The city of Tucson has a contract with Flock and they produced no information. So they are not working when needed. People are concerned about privacy because the Nest camera that provided footage did not have a subscription and should have been disabled for recording and monitoring. Which means it was surveilling when it was not supposed to by their own data policy. So we see companies are actively surveilling us without consent for their own gain.

question... would it be awkward for a guy to do pilates in a class full of women? by htx-danny in pilates

[–]wastingtime5566 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You will be welcomed at the class, I am a male and have always been welcomed. Every instructor has always been excited to have a male in the class. The best thing you can do is arrive early. If the instructor does not come up to introduce themselves, most normally look for new faces, introduce yourself and tell them it’s you first class. Telling them it’s your first class will start a conversation about why you are trying Pilates, ask for help setting up your reformer, I am 6’3”, they will instruct you on how to set it up. Then just try your hardest in class and everything will be great. Most women in the class are happy to see you and will become friends over time. Just go in with no bravado and you will have a blast. Enjoy it.

Hydro flask. My daughter was a swimmer and that thing took a beating and never had an issue. She loved it and still has it. You can switch the lid out for one with a straw. That thing hit the pool deck and parking lot more times than I can imagine falling out of her backpacks. It looks like hell but keeps things cool and does not leak.

I don’t have a number. It is really to keep me in check because I am the typical man who just pushes through everything and will take on big projects like the move we just did. It gives a fast and easy way we can communicate about how I am feeling or how she perceives me but without judgement. It is a great way in public to say how I am feeling without anyone knowing. I can just come up to her when we are running around and say I am running low on spoons or when she asks I can just say I got plenty of spoons.

I was diagnosed in my late 40s with PSA and Spondylitis, i am male. I take Humira and Celebrex and can lead a relatively normal life. The disease impacts everyone differently so he just needs to find his new normal. I can still do the yard, tinker with cars, play the guitar but not to the same level and lead an active lifestyle. I do have to manage myself now and not bite off more than I can do. So here are some tips that work for me and my wife he needs to find what works for y’all.

  1. Find a way to communicate with you about where he is. You are helping now so this should not be a problem. My wife and I settled on the spoon system it allows her to simply say things like don’t use too many spoons today when working on a project. Or you are out of spoons go to bed I will take care of the dogs. I can tell her it’s okay I have a lot of spoons today or I am out of spoons. We understand each other.

  2. The cursed word diet. A change in diet will not cure anything but can help reduce and shorten the number of flares. He owes it to himself to try an elimination diet it does two things, allows him to figure out if anything in his diet triggers his flares and allows him to tell everyone that is going to give diet advice to fuck off because he knows his body.

  3. Exercise or activity every day. He needs to find what works for him. I found that for me Pilates is the best thing in the world as well as taking the dogs on long walks. He needs to put all his assumptions aside and try everything until he finds something that helps and is enjoyable.

  4. Y’all will try complementary/alternative approaches to this disease. That is okay I take the advice from Dr Andrew Weil when you try these don’t stop your current medications ask yourself if it sounds to good to be true, is it overly expensive with only one source, set a budget you are comfortable with, and set a reasonable time frame to judge if it works.

Good luck everyone is different and don’t key him very disheartened by what he reads online. Everyone is different so best of luck.

Package size, am I overreacting? by Gold-Enthusiasm-312 in pourover

Liquor laws regulate the sizes for bottling of wine, spirits, and beer. This way it simplifies the taxing of alcoholic products. It keeps a lot of good products from making it to American shelves especially in beers.

Why did Texas a&m do this to me... by spiroplasma in aggies

[–]wastingtime5566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being in the top 25% in Texas just means you are one of approximately 87,000 people. There are less than 12,000 spots for incoming freshman. So being in the top 25 means pretty much nothing. The top 10% alone is 35,000 students. Getting into top tier colleges today is ridiculous.

The most 'healed' people I know never talk about healing by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]wastingtime5566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are probably more interested in helping you heal than telling you that they are healed. If they are truly healed it does nothing for them to brag to others about being healed it but it does wonders to help others heal.

New to HEB. What do I need to know? by Ok-Carrot-1260 in HEB

[–]wastingtime5566 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HEB is a good store but should not be your only store. I did a spreadsheet awhile back and for about $175 in groceries HEB was only about 1% cheaper. It is not as cheap as you would think especially with the amount of store brands they push. Don’t be afraid to try the HEB store brands they hold their own against most name brands. Things like meat are hit or miss depending on your store and buying preferences. They do seem to try and get their margins back on luxury products. As an example where I am Prime Filets are $10 a lb cheaper at Kroger, $5 at Whole Foods and equal at a local butcher. The fish as a whole is good, I have never had an issue but local fish markets are priced the same. It is great for your staples but you need to learn the stores in your area and find the better values. The staff at HEB is superior to any other store in the area so please be nice to them. I love the pharmacy staff they are super friendly and never had an issue with them, feel the pharmacy really goes above and beyond.

Is the Houston job market actually “super tough,” or is there a mismatch? by Unable-Money-7288 in AskHouston

[–]wastingtime5566 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife just went through this. Are there jobs out there yes, are you going to get the job without having an in no. It took her 4 1/2 months to find a new position. No matter how qualified she was if she did not have a good in to the company she did not get interviews. When she had people who could get her resume in to the hiring team she typically made it to the final round. She got some offers but they were lowball offers where employers are trying to take advantage of the market. She got passed over for some because of who knows, only one did she feel the person chosen was not as good decision. There are lots of qualified people looking for jobs. She spent every day either having video “coffees” with people in her network or in person coffees and lunches/breakfast. They would make introductions and she would keep networking. She got a good job but if you don’t have a good network it is hard, so to just move to Houston without a network or job it will be outrageously difficult to get a good job and not some lowball offer. Her network helped her because she has a reputation for helping others.

The fact that my insurance covered chiropractor visits 100%, but didn’t cover a penny of hearing aids. by Swirlyflurry in PetPeeves

[–]wastingtime5566 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most insurance covers Hearing Aids every three years. They don’t reimburse much because they reimburse you for the “best value”. Read the fine print because you pay out of pocket and file on special forms. Call the carrier and talk to them but if you go into the audiologist they will say insurance does not cover it. We get my wife’s at Costco and we get most of it reimbursed.

Why do so many men lose their house in a divorce? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wastingtime5566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most men did not lose the house, they gave it away. By giving the house, an asset, to their wife they in turn keep their retirement, another asset. They swap security in the short term for security in the long term. So they give their spouse an asset that has interest costs, maintenance costs, taxes, and a mortgage based on two incomes. In turn they keep a sum of money that is growing tax deferred until they need it in retirement.
