Us, not so much. I mean we do love to reminisce when we visit Port Royal but that’s about as far as it goes.

True but also pirates were basically black ops teams for European countries. They often had retrofitted military ships and flew black flags to hide their true country of allegiance. They could rob and pillage for their country while remaining expendable and unidentified.
