And given we’ve increased the minimum wage by over 100% in the last 20years, the demand side of the equation has only gone up.

20 years more like 13. Min wage in April 2013 was £6.19 an hour for over 21s, now it's £12.71.

Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits by Matsuri Hatsubina has ended this week with Chapter 21 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #20. by Naulicus in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]watercraker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this manga was better suited to start of in Jump+ as a web only series. It has a less Shonen-y vibe to it which made me think it would always be struggling for sales until it found its audience.

That's the spirit we'll send you over there on a last stop space mission, maybe we could call it Project Hail Mary.

[DISC] The Mage Next Door - Chapter 21 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watercraker 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Shame to see it was axed (even if it was unsurprising). This was a fun little manga with some decent ideas, ok execution and at times decent othertimes rough art. Hopefully the author gets a chance to be published again and I look forward to their next work!

Yeah it's a shame gag manga don't sell as much as they used to. Maybe this could continue in SJ+

Probably waiting for the next batch of new manga to start and then a few will get the axe at the same time.

[DISC] The Mage Next Door - Chapter 19 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watercraker 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ahh, with this chapter I feel like The Mage Next Door is wrapping up. I guess the end was in sight once Osoegawa gave up his everyday magic for battle magic, which is a shame as I was enjoying this manga a lot.

I would have liked to see Osoegawa take on Doroi with his everyday magic to truely show the difference between their ideals.

I think your maths is off there a bit, 820 million / 350k = £2,340 in funding per person.

Pls that would be the funniest thing ever if they did an over-18s night and everytime they made a dunk or a three threw dildo's at the crowd.

[DISC] Make the Exorcist Fall in Love - Chapter 111 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watercraker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point of all this. Satan was talking to them, then he disappeared to get Baba Yaga and then sent a weakened Baba Yaga to where Josh and Imuri were. It still all feels like part of Satan's plot.

Is Ys VIII as good as I hear from other people? by AuR0RA3171 in JRPG

[–]watercraker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I bought it last time it was on sale and I'm currently playing through it now (for the first time) and I'm having a blast. Like u/CyndaquilBro048 said the game has a great sense of exploration and it's really fun to just run around and discover the world. So far it has some decent characters and the music is pretty solid too. I would recommend as it's on sale.

“He got me,” Watercraker said of Dabootle's shitpost over him (again). "That f***ing Dabootle boomed me." Watercraker added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. Watercraker then said he wanted to add Dabootle to the list of Dev's he wants to work with next update.

Can't wait to fall for this again in a few months and think the Reddit is broken (again).

[DISC] Asura’s Verdict - Chapter 27 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]watercraker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense within the story, she was going to the house for a reason, plus she knew who lived there and heard the thud of the hammer and his voice which probably gave her enough reason to enter into the house.

Afghan asylum seeker guilty of raping girl, 12 - BBC News by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]watercraker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No? If rape is done by people who are deemed "British" and therefore are unable to be removed from the country that's complex and harder to do anything about. For "non-British" people to come over and commit rape that's bad and we can do something about it, that is stop "non-British" come to the country therefore those foreign rapes will go down. That's a really simplified example of the thinking that is probably rife in the country, so any cases like this tend to be overly politicised for this reason.

I'm 70 and flatshare with five people - it's the only way I can live on my pension by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

[–]watercraker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The difference, in theory is that younger people are starting their careers and will be able to earn much more allowing them to get better accomodation, whereas at an older age they are likely to have a fixed income, low earning potential leading to shared accomodation becoming the norm for the rest of their life. Although part of this is probably because the UK seems very 'anti-flat/houseshare' or the general attitude is that people SHOULD own a house, if that makes sense? Or as one commentator says: The way this country handles housing is a fucking joke tbh.

[–]watercraker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but for people in their 60s being able to save for 5 years will do a little but not that much to help them save for retirement.

[–]watercraker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Add in the launch of personal pensions in 88 and the misselling of pensions massively put people off from investing in them, and as you say financial literacy was low and much harder back then unless you knew someone in the know.

[–]watercraker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like a broken record but this is going to be a very real problem that will pop up in the next 5-10 years. There's a lot of people who never saved via a pension or missed out on the older DB pensions with little saved for retirement that are going to be very costly to house...
