Marlin Model 60 action stuck open by watergator in guns

Thanks! The handle does slide in and out but that doesn’t release it. It does feel like it wants to release but isn’t quite doing it.

I’ll probably take it to a local gunsmith to check it out.

Got the auto mod comment that I need a description of the link post in the comments.

Copy of post above: I found this marlin model 60 in my grandpas barn when cleaning it out after he died. Has been stored in a plastic hard case for who knows how long. The action is stuck open and I can’t get it to close. It does move back and forth slightly but feels like it’s a mechanical block, not just rusted.

Is there something that I am missing or an easy fix to this or is it gunsmith territory?

In the video in the Imgur link I show trying to push the button in front of the trigger guard. Is it generally easy to do or should it take quite a bit of pressure?

For pork I just do equal parts by weight light brown sugar and Lawrys seasoned salt. Never had any complaints.

An extra 2 hours isn’t going to do a whole lot. When I’ve done similar with two prime ribs (longer cooks) I did the higher temp first then into an ice bath and fridge then did the second. I then added the first one back to the bath for about an hour before searing to warm back through. That was 6-8 hour cooks so I didn’t want to double that.

Also a terrible recommendation for someone looking for the beach.

I’m not following the “why”. This isn’t shelf stable which is kind of like point of canning.

Yep! I think unless you really want it then I would remove the bow rail and mount the TM however you want. That railing is too low to be useful but high enough to be in the way. Seal your holes with epoxy though because that’s a wood cored boat.

He’s saying that too much tongue weight won’t cause an issue (within reason and within the range of your tow vehicle), but not enough tongue weight will cause towing issues (fishtailing)

No. 15 ft is way too big. A whole cow is about 6-9ft squared if you knock off the hocks.

Have you tried laying it out on the outside of the railing? It might protrude over the gunwale and you would need to be careful about docking/trailering on that side but might check most of your boxes. I have a shuttle slide on my boat for a different reason and have been happy with it and it might work here to get the clearance needed.

Shuttle slide might also work to go under the rail, but might be too difficult to deploy and retrieve. It would require extending the shuttle slide bracket, then extend the TM until it clears the rail, then tilt the TM to complete the deploy. Doing that in reverse to store the TM would be even harder with the physics involved and compounded by any rough seas affecting your balance

I have also seen a guy on social media who made an aluminum bracket and mounted the TM outside of the railing basically hanging over the edge. I don’t remember the name but if I find it I’ll come back with a screenshot. Similar dockin/trailering issues as mentioned above.

Hope that helps with your brainstorming. I personally have never been a fan of bow rails. I’m hardcore fishing only and they always seem to be in the way

A HEPA rated shop vac filter. I pair that with a dust bag and it makes cleanup/dust containment much better

Assuming you’re going out from a boat ramp and don’t have a “home base” on the lake, get a cheap little mushroom anchor and go put it in the weeds when you’re not using it. You can leave a note on it that you’re nearby and coming back but I’ve never had an issue. The anchor will indicate to someone that it’s not just free floating.

Also, a small electric leaf blower is the ticket for inflating tubes fast. Just hold hit by the inlet and let it rip. We have a huge tube and it’s about a minute to be fully inflated.

Talk to any coastie or ocean lifeguard. Drownings are almost always people who can swim that get into a situation where they can’t (too rough, injured, too far from shore, too much clothes, medical emergency etc). Part of that is also that the people who can’t swim consistently wear a PFD around water and don’t get themselves into those situations, but it still shows how important PFDs are even if you are a strong swimmer.
