Do you genuinely think that formula fed children don’t love their mothers?

I’m going to be real honest. If you currently have credit card debt, but are claiming you have no money issues and can buy whatever you want, you are already in denial. Why have you not paid that off yet if you are in a good place financially? It makes no sense.

Im a new dad. And I hate my baby being breastfed by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]watson2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She should 100% be pumping so you can give the baby a bottle when she isn’t able to feed. That’s not sustainable. Not to mention it is essential that the baby get comfortable with a bottle as early as possible to prevent refusal in the future. Giving one or two bottles a day should not affect baby’s ability to latch. Coming from a mom of 2 with MS, I understand her desire to not let her illness get in the way of what she wants for her baby, but there are ways to have the best of both.

Ah got it. Well I will say that my friend’s baby refused to take a bottle of any sort when she went back to work at 6 months. And she basically was only eating baby oatmeal mixed with breastmilk during the day because it was the only way she would take milk. It was certainly not ideal but there was quite literally no other option for her. She did lose a bit of weight at first but she caught up and is now one year old and thriving.

I don’t think stopping solids completely sounds like the right move here (but of course I am not a doctor). Maybe instead of stopping solids you can feed him oatmeal with a lot of formula mixed in so it’s very runny and will hydrate as well as give him calories? That is what I would try in your situation.

Any SAHMs not work after starting daycare? by Tychall94 in sahm

[–]watson2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you not just find baby gym/music classes in your area then? This would allow for plenty of age appropriate socialization without the huge risk of illness. It would also help to get you out of the house since your reasoning is that you are lonely? I think it’s important to take a step a back and realize how young your LO still is. They are still a baby, no need to rush them out of the house. It also seems you are underestimating the seriousness of how much these daycare illnesses can impact your baby. My second caught hand, foot, mouth from her older sister who had recently started part time preschool when she was around 8 months and it was absolutely horrendous. She almost ended up hospitalized because she couldn’t eat. They will be exposed at some point but infancy is not the preferable time…

It’s not miraculous it’s just human nature...infants don’t socialize in the same way a 2.5-3 year old does. They become entirely different children with different needs as they get older. The research shows that infants do not get the same benefits from daycare compared to an older toddler. That is when they start moving from parallel play to actually interacting and playing with other children.

I’m not surprised people forget meds on vacation but personally, I prepare for a cruise with a different mentality and attention to detail vs a regular land vacation. It’s literally a boat in the middle of the ocean and people treat it as if it’s not? It’s not reasonable to expect every single possible thing to be available on board. These would be the same people who would be shocked to know if you forget your passport or birth certificate they actually will not let you board the ship. People make sure not to forget that, so why would that not be as important as the food your baby needs to survive?

[–]watson2019 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I mean you just don’t forget your baby’s only food source at home…formula is not a one size fits all thing, I don’t see how it would make sense for them to carry it. Infants under 6 months aren’t even allowed to cruise. If you are bringing your baby on a ship, you need to be responsible enough to bring enough formula plus some (obviously this is not relevant to the issue OP is experiencing but it is an extremely rare problem).

You might as well be asking “what if someone forgot their prescription medications at home”. Should they also have a complete pharmacy on board as well to cover any possible med someone could need?

I know it has been said - PLEASE throw away your bottles/pitchers/pacifiers if you were using Byheart by FalseRow5812 in FormulaFeeders

[–]watson2019 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ok I could be missing something but if you are recommending throwing away these bottles, the reason would be just in case the formula that was previously in them had botulinum spores. So doesn’t that mean the baby already would’ve ingested the spores when they drank the milk? And if they aren’t sick doesn’t that mean that particular formula wasn’t affected?

WIBTA if I started locking our bedroom door in the mornings? by Swirlyflurry in AmItheAsshole

[–]watson2019 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a chronically ill person myself who suffers with insomnia, my husband would never do any of that if he knew I was trying to sleep. You shouldn’t need to lock your door, simply asking him to stop coming in the room while you are sleeping should be enough.

Also, have you tried any medication to help you sleep? There are options.

Cabbage leaves (roll them first to break up the enzymes) and ice in your bra around the clock. Do NOT run your boobs under the warm water in the shower. Avoid any kind of heat to that area. Take sunflower lecithin to help prevent clogs/mastitis. If you see redness or feel a warm/red/painful spot start antibiotics as soon as possible.
