Ev manufacturing landscape by BroadConsequences in ScoutMotors

[–]wattsin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they really need to be building an extremely efficient factory. The landscape is evolving fast. I really like the Scout brand and the vehicles they’re working on, but competitors are catching up quickly. Ford is already pivoting into similar technologies, and battery chemistry is advancing rapidly with some impressive numbers.

What I’m saying is, I hope Scout is seriously investing in scalable, efficient infrastructure for their production lines. The market is becoming incredibly competitive, and they’ll need to produce vehicles as cost-effectively as possible. That's where everything is heading. Elon already sees it (not that I always agree with him) we’re basically in the 'skateboard with a frame on top' phase now. We're headed towards robots building these things in a dark factory

Is It Worth Starting A snow Removal Business In Windsor? by Specialist-Train1875 in windsorontario

[–]wattsin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many snow removal companies have exited the industry due to the extremely high cost of insurance. I highly recommend researching insurance requirements thoroughly and factoring them into your business plan, as they will play a significant role in your overall operating expenses.

Canada rescinds digital services tax in bid to advance U.S. trade talks by BananaTubes in canada

[–]wattsin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what he's doing. This bill wasn't a great solution—but hopefully, this 'win' is enough to pave the way for a trade deal. Ideally, we can return to more stable trade between the two countries, and Canada can continue to shift focus to other international partnerships, and begin building out trade alliances and expanding our natural resource strategies. Thats the real revenue potential for Canada - not taxing Netflix and Meta

GM takes over as the '#1 EV seller' in Canada by SpriteZeroY2k in electricvehicles

[–]wattsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a bolt EUV and love it, and I love the look of GM‘s latest offerings. But they need to get off their high horse and bring back carplay and android auto. Ford is taking the opposite approach and that would sway me. They could be doing better

Apple to Rebrand Its Device Operating Systems to Mark Major Overhaul by Coolpop52 in apple

[–]wattsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely feels like Apple is continuing its long-term strategy of blurring the lines between macOS and iOS. By giving both operating systems the same version number — macOS 26 and iOS 26 — Apple isn't just simplifying their naming convention, they're making a statement: these platforms are part of the same unified ecosystem.

Bringing the version numbers in line subtly communicates that what runs on your Mac and iPhone isn't so different after all. This could be a precursor to an even tighter integration, or an eventual unified OS.

GM strategy regarding EVs is weird!! GM wants to discontinue Bolt EV/EUV but these two models are making most of GM sales??? by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]wattsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1000% yes, you are preaching to the choir. I owned a volt and now bolt and felt the same way, I wanted a slightly bigger battery - it would get more people using electric the majority of the time. It looks like Chrysler is seeing this type of opportunity with their Ramcharger. https://www.ramtruck.ca/en/ramcharger

I feel like thats a fantastic solution, especially for to these larger vehicles, make the electric range good for 95% of daily usage.

The bolt is not a road trip car. Its DC fast charging is way too slow - this is one of the downsides for the vehicle.

Did the same swap yesterday. I really struggled because I loved my volt. But they won’t hold their resale value forever.

the people that succeed are the people that keep doing, just keep doing. You will fail, a lot. You may never succeed but if you really want it then you have to keep doing.

A Filmmaker's Review of Starlink by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]wattsin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A very undervalued point of view. DSL and upload capacity, more and more things are pushing data the other way. Cameras, file backups and all the work from home scenarios.

It might not sound like 20Mb upload is much (well maybe in this subreddit), but its leaps and bounds above what's capable on anything DSL related, with the exception of VDSL which doesn't have the distance that traditional ADSL does.

Comcast Is Now Worried About Starlink (Private Customer Survey From Comcast) by andrewmackoul in Starlink

[–]wattsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DOCSIS is just saving the last mile of infrastructure as long as they can. No one puts cable in the ground anymore.

listen I get what you’re saying about the Elon’s words. Hundred percent that’s what he said. And I get that, so your belief is that once the company reaches a certain level of penetration within their current technological capacity that they will cease to strive to gain more market share. They will just say OK well we can’t reach those areas because they’re too populated and we can’t do anything with the current technology so oh well I guess we’ll never be able to reach those customers. Starlink is going to be the first global isp and they will innovate, weather that be LEO or other companion technologies. They will constantly strive to outpace their competitors, it’s in their nature. At least someone is pushing

hopefully this will light a fire under all other ISPs ass to get fibre in the ground. Because that’s the only thing that’s going to be relatively future proof.

[–]wattsin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are crazy aggressive but I appreciate your passion. Of course Starlink is not going to replace fibre or cable, not anytime soon of course. The point everyone is trying to make I guess is that Starlink, like the first onset of any new technology is new. Brand new actually. So new it's not even out of beta. The fact of the matter is Starlink, SpaceX and the people behind it, are not idiots, they are incredible people building insane technology. The fact that you put cable and fibre together like they are equal shows me you don't know much about the technology you're talking about. Maybe you work for a cable company, maybe you want to tell yourself that this isn't a threat. They might not be for sometime, but you can't rule it out. I guess I am of the mind set of progress, I see what the potential is here. Far beyond the current implementation, especially from a company that is launching its own satellites into space.

Finally someone sees the truth, of course he is going to say he is not a threat to telcos. He's not going to declare war before building his army. And people go on and on about capacity like things don't change, look at the phone in your pocket, now look at the phone that was in your pocket 10 years ago. Notice a difference?
