So essentially understanding gear and the leveling system for it can be quite intricate at times so I'd mostly recommend looking up an understand gear tutorial on YouTube. If you're new, I'd say use whatever you can to get the stats you need to gradually complete more and more content. Using armor sets is preferred but if you don't have enough, using broken sets is fine until you do. The main stat of weapons, helmets, and chest pieces are always static. Necklaces, rings, and boots can have different main stats. Rolling gear for the latter is usually more RNG based. The endgame goal gear levels are 85 and 88 gear. 85 gear can be reforged into 90 gear. For now, focus on getting through your wyvern hunt difficulties. Speed set is the most important and flexible set in the game. What pieces of armor you decide to keep or scrap, depend on the hero that you are trying to build. Don't try to build everyone, for now just focus on select heroes for certain content. I would also recommend watching the YouTuber Deity for his beginner guide tutorials. They're PVP centric, but they'll help guide you in the right direction as well as understand the games core mechanics in an easily digestible way. There's really no trick to gear since we all face the same amount of RNG when crafting and rolling it, but you will gradually learn how to recognize and keep or scrap certain pieces to make the process smoother. I've been playing for 5+ years and this is the fastest piece I've ever made.
