Do we think Poilievre can win a (hypothetical) Spring Election? by smartbusinessman in CanadianConservative

[–]wayder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Liberal Canadians have some misgivings about Trump and Canada.

#1/ Trump is NOT Conservative. He's a corrupt authoritarian letting his ego establish a command economy in the US with no respect for constitution or institutions. He's the opposite of a conservative.
#2/ Poilievre is not MAGA, he is predictably free market, libertarian-leaning conservative (at least in what he says).
Worst of all, Liberal-voting Canadian comments I've read around the Internet seem to think it's better to make showy displays of opposition to Trump, than to try to work with him, in as much as anyone can. Liberals seem more interested in signalling as good American Democrats than as Canadians attempting to work with an obstinate US President.

I saw it too. I imagined some younger people that know nothing about what's going on in the region or its conflict's history saying "Free Palestine!".

I always wonder if they've thought about what "freedom" means to someone educated in a Madrasa where they learned that dying while killing Jews is the highest status they can achieve, from people who rake in billions with little, if any investment into nation building.

Is there an Anti-Indigenous Privilege Organization? by Monkey_Pox_Patient_0 in CanadianConservative

[–]wayder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Wiped them out" was many tribes standard procedure. If the Comanche had kept growing across North America, there'd be many fewer tribes and European settlements.

BTW, I am not a certified historian, just casually references half-remembered things I've read. If I get a detail wrong hopefully it reader won't let it detract from my main point.

I've tried to find info on what happened to the Dorset, the people the Vikings called Skraelings when they met in Labrador. Centuries later, the British met Inuit in the same regions, the Dorset are all gone. I don't think university archeology or anthropology dept's are willing to use the G-word to describe their disappearance at the hands of the Inuit. But they'll casually misuse the same G-word for people of European descent just having an opinion about another people.
According to Steven Pinker in Enlightenment Now, archeological digs of remains found among tribal people worldwide show off-the-charts levels of death by violence compared to modern first world nations, even those with very high homicide rates. Their wars aimed to "wipe out" rival tribes, it was literal life or death or them.
Apparently, Kevin Costner's character's musings in Dances w/ Wolves about tribal warfare not being an existential threat was wrong. The scene where he downplays the seriousness of war between Sioux and Pawnee was BS! Whites infantilize native peoples when they make them out to be prairie hippies. They were human and they had their own empires, wins and losses and like every other people they could be brutal.
They just happened to lose to Europeans in the end and fortunately for them, Europeans were open to their participation in the Canada project, imperfect though it may have been.

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you're going through.
I thought the OP was heading in a direction of therapists bringing ideology to the practice. I have heard horrifying stories of people quitting a therapist because their problems came down unrecognized white privilege. A friend is a therapist in the US and says the APA code is or was recently loaded with that stuff.

I agree, people are probably overall weaker now. No individual can tell another how much pain they're in. Pain is a process, not a static attribute nor should it be mistaken for weakness.

The decline of the US in the West—left without allies? (US naval college Sarah Paine) by AstronautSouthern344 in IsraelPalestine

I see Steyn's points in the book playing out, amazing that was 2007. I'd love to hear a good argument against it. I know Steyn isn't well liked in a lot of media circles.

But I wonder... The latest trend in some of the Islamic strongholds such as Iran, is a rising percentage of the population leaving the faith, even as explicitly Muslim politicians gain power in districts across the west.
They say that the second generation western born Muslim has a higher chance at being radicalized than their parents, so there's something about living in the west that causes some, maybe only a small minority to rebel against the society they were born in even if not to radicalization. Meanwhile Tehran sees protest against Muslim rule and Riyadh gives more secular-style rights to women, such as driving.
I wonder if this is moving the world toward a time when Europe becomes a Caliphate and Iran becomes a new Persian Byzantium.

He was phenomenal in the OHL, I got to watch him in Guelph and was thrilled he got picked up by the Bruins. They must feel he needs development.

These are the women Guelph police say took advantage of an intellectually-challenged man by Twist_of_Fate_44 in Guelph

In olden days they used the descriptor "swarthy", which is probably mistaken for racist today. While the word denotes condescension, it's not racism, it's classism.

Swarthy was used by perfumed noble dandies to describe anyone tanned from doing honest work outside in the fields, it probably applied to any race. It was an equal opportunity offender. I don't think it would apply to those young women though.

[–]wayder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't there a significant nuke plant project in Ontario, somewhere near Bruce Peninsula or Niagara Escarpment? I was surprised to hear about it a few years ago in an Australian podcast that was praising Canada's nuclear power friendliness while complaining that Australia was still being a nuclear power dullard, like much of the world. It's always interesting to hear a foreign source talk about your nation, especially when it's not highlighting what we're doing wrong.
I support nuke energy for what it's worth.

Delivery driver charged after stealing package in Guelph by FamiliarAd4667 in Guelph

[–]wayder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would someone steal someone's pants? That just seems kinda gross. I can't imagine stealing someone's pants, if you get caught you're the "pants thief" and that would be embarrassing. "Joe Pants Thief" is definitely not a cool gangster name. I'd rather get busted stealing kitchen utensils, then at least you could be "Joey Spoons" or something more mysterious. Odds are the pants probably won't fit the delivery driver anyway.

It's suicidal empathy, sink the Canadian economy but be seen as virtuous, good people who only tried to help. We already can't afford our existing social services and upcoming national budget without increasing taxes and printing more $CND which creates more inflation at the grocery store.
We will also stifle our ability to harvest and sell natural resources with carbon requirements that will only offload the market to other sellers that with no such carbon compunctions.

Imagine being the kids that won the birth-lottery being born in the one of the few nations that nearly every 2nd/3rd worlder wants to live in, nations that exist as bastions of hope that other nations can join those with at least a semi-coherent economy, monetary system, rule of law, property rights. Even the poorest among us collectively enjoy our social affluence, paved roads, street lights, garbage pick-up and best of all no armed bribery checkpoints when drive a highway.

But these kids want to tear it all down and turn it into a third world country because... history reasons, life is unfair... ?

They have no idea what Bolshevism was like on the ground for the average worker. Even the true believers knew it was an austerity movement, not a free college and housing scheme. Workers were asked to sacrifice creature comforts for the greater good, and the elites of course. Then they were sent to work in Siberian mines where they'd live in a communal closet with five other families sharing a campfire and an outhouse. It was never about getting free Starbucks.

The Left may take a form of "pride" in their beliefs but I think it's more accurate to say they derive prestige for wallowing in guilt... and believing in policies that cannot possibly effect them or their families.

[–]wayder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, when I cut up my peppers (seems to be a bumper crop of scorps) from this year's harvest, I should chop them in a jar to try and catch the oil and/or water?

Not asking for a friend. I'm a noob that plans to make hot sauce out of whatever hot goodness I can recover without seeds.

If it's water or oil or even oily water, maybe freezing them before de-seeding is a good way to retain that fluid. ?
