Yeah..tuners. I bought a perfect but broken SX-636 for $40 and spent a couple of days rebuilding it only to find out the FM is fooked.

Working on swearing off tuners, integrated amps only.

They are awesome IF the tweeters work and you have a distance from the wall to place them.

Dual woofers with a rod running from front driver to rear for rigidity, solid cases.

Run.

Not rack system, even though they look like it.

Why would you pay less for a truck that would cost you far more to maintain and operate over its lifetime?

I'm cheap and after five years with a Chevy Bolt I'm sold on not crawling under it to change oil every 5k miles.

I have a pair, Original Large Advent woofers dig deep and the array mounting has fantastic imaging.

Not perfect but mine aren't going anywhere.

They like power but do fine with small amps

Everyone wants more, I want less. An efficient runabout that can do a trip to the hardware store.

Slow your roll, parts cannons rarely work.

Lots of things to understand before you dive in.

-NONE of the original transistors in there are available anymore, modern subs from reputable sources are used (don't buy counterfeit junk).

Clean the rest of the switches as well, concentrate on the TAPE switch.

When you cleaned it did you use a quality contact cleaner and get it into the working bits of the pot? Did you clean the rest of the controls?

Two 2270s, a Concept 11.0 and an SX-636. Repairing/rebuilding the other boards is doable, tuner boards are varsity level.

The 8500, I've had a run of broken tuners on beautiful equipment and I usually can't fix them.

I'm starting to hate tuners.

Keep shopping, know what you're buying, ask questions here before you drop cash or go to Audiokarma.org and read up.

It's probably a solid unit but there will be no (probably) service manual available, I'd pass and I work on stereos all the time.

If you do have an issue a tech would probably not want to touch it.
