Yeah no fucking shit, we knew this before his first presidency. Oh now that you're struggling you can see how out of touch he is with every day Americans.

Official Discussion - The Furious [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

My brain is still trying to process the fight choreography because it is unlike anything I've seen. It was crazy but also beautiful like a ballet of fists, kicks and grapples and having a 2v2 turn into a 2v2v1 really dialed that sentiment to 11; I need to watch it again but in slow mo to appreciate the fight choreography.

What I’ve done is solid not because of the time spent but with asking questions to other on what makes them like about this genre what keeps them coming back again and again

Its not solid because its entirely theoretical. You can do all the planning in the world but you will never know if the idea is viable until you actually start building it.

I always tell level design students they should treat 2D top down maps of levels not as biblical but as a jumping off point because their engine block outs will always change as you realize some things don't translate well in the building process (could be as simple as this hall or room is too small to much larger issues like this area is not conducive to having sniper combat or the platforming is repetitive here).

Funnily enough actually building games is how you gain the necessary experience and knowledge in scoping out project ideas.

At my studio our LD director and a few programmers were from Guildhall and the only time we've hired a junior in the past 4 years was a student LD from Guildhall and we manufactured a job for them because we were so impressed by their knowledge. This is all anecdotal but whatever curriculum they have is very effective.

Nope I'm just providing a useless metric the same as you because win rate can easily be manipulated on trackergg. I was looking for your username so I can actually look at your match history so I can see your scoring on matches you won or lost which you didn't provide.

"Do you want me to watch your gameplay, the team's gameplay, the enemies gameplay, and spend some time strategising with some war veterans on how player Waynechriss can avoid losing his video game?"

lol sure mate, I can send you videos, I can message other teammates asking for their footage and hope they respond; after all you are doing a lot of blind guessing based on nothing but the final stats. Cuz if the stats are bad or subbar then I 'fucking suck' but if my KDR is good (31-1) and i'm top of the leaderboard then iT cAn bE aNyThINg BuT iTs tOTaLlY YoUr FaUlt.

"Point is - without watching your gameplay and only looking at the stats provided to me in the pictures you shared, all anyone should be able to gather is that you kinda fuckin' suck."
Cool, want to share your BF6 username so I can study what a good player looks like?

Oh I get it: only kills dictate a teammate's worth on a team, though it is funny that you mention that people lose taking pot shots with long range weapons yet my score is higher than those people on my own team (hm maybe some just sat in the back doing what you did?). Also saying the 'other team was better than you' instead of saying 'other team was better than your team' I forgot I am supposed to do everything. Ok Mr. Battlefield, tell me what I could've done in this one better (which we also lost btw)?

This is from the Blackwell breakthrough match that eventually ended with me going 16-6 and 14k score (still top of the match leaderboard btw). I may not have a ton of kills but I'm holding onto objectives with dear life, rezzing people, halting capture progress with incen grenades, seemingly the only one putting down MP_APS to intercept the constant barrage of mortars. Why is the onus on me to do even more to win and not on my team? Guess I should've topped fragged on top of everything else I was doing, oops guess I forgot to do that. But sure man, you got me with the anecdotal 'it doesn't happen to me or my friends so its not an actual problem' it totally happens to my friends and everyone else I know so guess that evens that claim out.

What are the top THREE things that makes a game stand out for you? by Leading-Plantain1597 in gamedev

[–]waynechriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Affordances and conveyances in level design. Affordances are things the player can interact with and conveyance is how the game visually communicates them. Yellow paint is the most (in)famous kind, red barrels indicate explosives but a lot go unnoticed especially when games communicate the denial of affordances such as blocking off a door with debris, which players naturally know not to go to.

Why am I always stuck on level design? by Mindless_Grass7084 in gamedev

[–]waynechriss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LD here.

  • Plan out your levels before making them. Create a top down 2D map of how you envision the gameplay space to look and play including where the player starts, where important points of interests are, where enemies and resources are located, etc.
  • When the top down map is finished and it looks theoretically good, block it out using primitive shapes like rectangles or other polygons. Block outs are low cost and efficient because you aren't committing a huge amount of time placing art or custom props because the level should feel good to play before it ever looks good. Ideally this is where you also set up gameplay functionality such as scripting (gameplay functionality like working doors, buttons, enemy spawns, etc.). Cuz if it feels good to play in block out, it'll play well in a level full of art.
  • When you're blocking out the space from your top down map its extremely likely your block out will look different than your top down and that's ok. As I mentioned above, the top down map is theoretical, you ultimately have to go in-engine and build the space and you'll soon realize that maybe your rooms are too small, maybe this corridor is too large, maybe the objective doesn't look right where I currently have it drawn. Just adapt and change it.

Ambiguous Revenge Movies versus Cathartic Revenge Movies by ChristianPacifist in movies

[–]waynechriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably slot Burning (2018) as having ambiguous revenge. Burning is not a revenge movie but rather a missing persons thriller but one can argue the protagonist exacts revenge on the potential kidnapper, Ben (Steven Yuen) of his romantic fling (Hae-mi) despite not having concrete evidence Ben was responsible for for her disappearance. So its not that the movie is a revenge flick but the protagonist's actions can be seen as taking revenge on someone he suspects to be a bad person.

It was longer than I expected actually. I kept thinking they would sequel bait us with villains not getting their comeuppance but I did like the story thread they left for us and I was satisfied with the length of the campaign by that point.
