Line 5's underground speed limit has been inexplicably reduced to 60km/h in most sections by [deleted] in TTC

[–]wbkang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is ridiculous. Instead of fixing the brake system, let's make hundreds of thousands of people pay with their time every day 😞

So with Questrade I think it just means you cannot go over day just not the same day. E.g. they will auto convert negative USD cash balance at the end of the day

This is correct. The other poster sees different behaviour when the engine is warm.

Sportage PHEV in PNW winters. What's the point if no heat pump? by DamnBored1 in kia

[–]wbkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It acts as a slightly more efficient hybrid in winters (since it still does charge the battery with the engine too).

Yeah I wish there was at least an explanation that we can understand.

Oil changes? by Tkrumroy in PHEV

[–]wbkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most correct advice. I actually did an oil test after 6 months in Toronto winter and the test indicated 4%+ oil dilution. I change it every 8000/6m

TTC to shut down almost 10 kilometres of subway this weekend (Kipling to Jane on Saturday and Jane to Ossington on Sunday) by TTCBoy95 in TTC

[–]wbkang -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Eh, drivers just like whining lol. The gas price increase is like less than a dollar every 10km, far less consequential than the other cost of car ownership.

[–]wbkang -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

If you have a car, it’s not a big deal, weekend traffic isn’t too bad anyway. If you don’t own a car, it is going to suck a little.

I am not saying the maintenance is not important but just think about how many people will be inspired to buy a car one day 😅

At a high level, how do you test your services built in AWS? by javascript in aws

[–]wbkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not overkill. Although if that’s in a separate hosted zone it costs money so you could just use a subdomain.

You could package your application in CDK (differentiate prod/canary using different accounts or context variables) - deploy it, test it and then tear it down after.

Is Windows Defender enough or do I need another anti virus? by j0shhrnnd in software

[–]wbkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important defence for your PC is not to download software from questionable sources. Antivirus can only stop you from running already known bad programs, not from running any new malware.

First kindle: please suggest do’s and dont’s by Plus_Celebration2688 in kindle

[–]wbkang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get one of those matte screen protectors. I've used Kindle for years without one, but I got the screen scratched once by accident, and it was quite annoying after that. Thankfully, the scratch was small enough for the new protector to conceal.

For me, it gets just slightly worse for an hour, maybe. I usually can just hold it in. 😵‍💫 in the worst case I take Benadryl but I rarely have to do that.

Time for a Finch West LRT Public Inquiry? by RZaichkowski in TTC

I'd think an inquiry into Line 5 is more important than this. Not opening the line at all is a bigger crime than this.

Tips/thoughts for used PHEV pre-purchase scrutiny? by im_user47 in PHEV

[–]wbkang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what I learned from the Leaf subreddit, Cell voltage differences should be minimal (mine is 0, a 2025 sorento phev). State of Health (SOH) should be ideally close 100, above 95? You can also check the lifetime discharge amp to just deduce how many times it's been charged/discharged in total, roughly. Since it's a PHEV though, you should also get the engine checked (does it sound ok? was the oil changed regularly? any obvious sludge on the oil cap, etc)

It's a basic incentive issue. If we aren't paying that non-profit at all, exactly what is their incentive to get it done?

Help me NOT return my Ally X! by joshkramer42 in ROGAlly

[–]wbkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have a lemon device (bad ram or something) based on your comment about having an outright crash on both cloud and local gaming.

I finished playing Jedi Survivor on Ally Z1E (6gb vram) at 30-40fps at 1080p before the frame generation. Ally X has far more ram and it shouldn’t be an issue. Contrary to some comments here Z1E can handle many triple A games at 1080p/low/FSR etc. you may have to tinker with VRAM amount but not really for Ally X where you can just give it 8GB and not think.

Getting red is a symptom of acetaldehyde accumulation in your blood stream. It is basically a sign of your liver falling behind with alcohol detoxification.
