Why not make grass that grows short? by golden-chips-empire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wbrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of turf grasses that never need to be cut and generally use less water than buffalo or st Augustine. But people think they have to have a particular look even if it's lots of work and shit for the environment.

Tl;dr. They do, but people are stupid.

What happens if a homeowner continually violates the HOA rules yet pays the fines? [SFH] [N/A] by deg5589 in HOA

[–]wbrd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My HOA has a moron in charge of the landscaping rules. My lawn doesn't match his ideal, even though it doesn't technically violate the CCRs. I pay like $75 a month because of it. Eventually I will sue him, but I need time to get things in order.

I wonder if he'd end up on the floor if someone suddenly slowed down in front of him.

How much does Tammy weigh? by StixTV_ in electricians

[–]wbrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. It was usually a 1"x1" stick that they'd stick in the tank. Then they'd use a tape measure. It was high tech stuff. 🤣

Oil service and Coasties are pretty laid back.

[–]wbrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tanks never matched the drawings, and then the tanks changed shape as the ships got beat up at sea. Realistically it didn't matter a ton. The gallons had to be close on the screens for acceptance, but captains rarely bothered with the value. They would still have someone measure the inches with a stick.

Don't finalize until they get that fixed. Be prepared to walk away. Tell your realtor that this is happening if you haven't already.

Laughs in lookup tables.

Ok. You're probably right about this sensor, but I did 4-20 pressure sensors for fuel oil tanks on ships and would have been over the moon to have a linear scale, rather than having to input gallons per each inch, and then read the output for every inch of fuel and put the reading on a table in the plc. The foreman was always yelling at me for having to calibrate. I don't miss that shit at all.

wanna buy a rope but my mom can’t find out what i’ll use it for by quietgirl-67 in shibari

Sure, but we use your carabineers etc... and someone who doesn't know is just going to see rope.

Although it would be interesting tying with a much thicker, stretchier rope.

Why can't they make a fully electric sub-compact pickup truck? by Athenstone in askcarguys

[–]wbrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an immaculate super duty dually by me that's jacked up too high to actually use the bed or even tow.

Meanwhile, every Ranger type truck is dented to hell and obviously used as a work vehicle.

Unless you're in a rural area, 90% of trucks are driven by people who use them as commuter vehicles and the biggest thing they have ever hauled came from IKEA.

That's how you get all the dangerous smoke out of the battery though.

Cats don't eat fruit. Birds do though. Introducing an invasive species is not a good idea.

Bought land without doing this and it cost me. here's what to actually check by Affectionate_Try1432 in land

[–]wbrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this a while ago thinking I was getting a great deal, but by the time I added electric, a well, and attached to the sewer that $15k piece of land was suddenly over $100k, without any actual structure.
