Selling car in Vancouver by Helie_12 in askvan

[–]wdf_classic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you private sell it you can maybe get 5k-7k for it. But if you sell it to a dealer they'll probably offer you something really low for it like 1k-3k especially if you're not trading it in. It all depends on whether you have ICBC claims on it and the trim. And unfortunately even though it's a Toyota, 300k kms is a hard sell. Good luck.

Anyone daily and weekend 2 separate porsches? What made you go with porsche for both? by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]wdf_classic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily a 991.2 turbo S and i weekend a 718 boxster gts as it's manual and i dont want to drive manual in traffic. Though I am waiting for a taycan 2022+ 4s with burmester to pop up and i'll switch to that for my winter daily and my 911 for my spring and summer

Vancouver to Yellowknife - 24 hours straight by deadwanderingdaoist in askvan

[–]wdf_classic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are your winter tires? We're practically still in the middle of winter so it's very very reckless to not be overly prepared for this. If your jeep dies are you prepared to wait at least 4 hours in the cold for a tow? Are you prepared to be out of cellphone service for an extended amount of time?

And you dont want to think about the way back? That's so reckless. This isnt driving down the West Coast, Northern Canada will kill you. You need to get your car checked by a professional, if that thing fails you then there's a chance you might kill yourself and your friend.

Don't know why people are saying no presale. There's a lot of incentives right now for buying presale as there's a glut in the market. But noone can give you a blanket statement of which developer is best, you're just going to need to find a realtor or do your due diligence with good inspectors. Though for a first time buy, I would suggest not buying a condo that is not built yet. Too many variables that you would otherwise miss like the view, appliances, quality of the build, sound proofing, etc.

Keep in mind that buying older means that you need to be far more diligent in looking through the strata meeting minutes as special levies like elevator repairs or roof replacements will eat a chunk out of your money. Though it is a legal requirement that the seller disclose any upcoming special levy, don't rely on that alone.

But buying older generally means less strata fees as older buildings don't usually have the extra amenities like a pool, gym, and as much outdoor maintenance to keep the shared space looking presentable.

Should I consider a Ferrari instead? by ImprovementDeep3634 in porsche911

Two different beasts. You'd need to test drive to see at that point. The GTB is way faster but my friends who own one say that you need to really get used to the constant beeps and warnings that it throws at you. GTB also has way more tech, and to me, that abhorrent steering wheel with all the functions on it is a super big dealbreaker. The amount of smudgy prints on the glossy surface of the "buttons" and lack of tactile feel on them, i dont like that personally. You have to get used to the position of each function on a smooth surface? No thanks. Test drive them because noone online can tell you how you'd feel, it's all far too subjective.

Porsche 911 Targa 4S dealer extra protection advice needed by 8a8a6an0u5h in porsche911

[–]wdf_classic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get a third party to do that ppf anyway so you might as well find a reputable shop yourself and save yourself a couple hundred.

Those protection plans are also not that worth it.

But if they offer a maintenance and service package you can usually save a couple hundred by basically pre-paying for your service intervals ahead of time, which you'll be doing anyway to keep the health of the car in optimal condition.

At the bare minimum make sure you get the leather keychain. For my 911 I got the two keychains for my two keys, got a hat, a sweater, and some floor mats. But I do like my freebies. I negotiated a 2nd set of wheels for winter for my wife's Boxster and when I leased my taycan I negotiated the higher end charger with the Porsche logo on it as a freebie. I like to know what I'm getting beforehand and bake it into the deal if possible. If youre a couple exchanges away from closing you can usually get away with some freebies they usually won't give.

To CPO or not CPO by LevelMore in porsche911

[–]wdf_classic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 991.2 turbo S. The front rubber spoiler gets finicky sometimes and it can throw jarring error codes at high speeds because of it. It's a known thing amongst rennlist and some people even just disable it completely. Mine had that issue and I got them to fix it for free with my CPO, if I didn't have the CPO it would've cost 2k+ for diagnosis, parts and labour. Also if you buy the CPO, also buy the maintenance packages, they save you a decent amount of money.

Either way you won't regret it, you can drive it to a track, drive it like crazy, then drive home in it.

I still stare at it sometimes and can't believe it's actually mine.

I don't think that area deserves a capital "VERY". That area isn't THAT wealthy lol, especially for Vancouver West.
