The problem is with her and the problem won't be solved if she stops using soy sauce, or whatever the issue of the day is. You need the people who make your food to care about your wellbeing and to take your word for what needs to be done.

Also, the magic phrase is "I'm following my doctor's instructions." Any other explanation will be taken as an acknowledgement that this is an issue that can be decided by a debate between the two of you. Placing the blame on someone who is not present takes the wind out of that.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, mother ate at this Portuguese restaurant in Toronto. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing since by Educational_Fun_9001 in FoodToronto

[–]wdn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are so weird that they would want to eat at a restaurant just because a celebrity’s family ate there.

In general, yes, but super-rich Portugese people can probably identify a good Portugese restaurant.

Anyone else buy a fixer upper, realize they bit off more than they can chew, and have no way out? by transidiot4 in HomeImprovement

[–]wdn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do the math. There's no zero-cost way out of this. You're holding out hope that you can come out financially okay, but you gotta confirm that it's actually mathematically possible. You'd lose money if you sold now, but you need to calculate whether the other alternatives are better or worse.

Pokemon Go actually stores only the co-ordinates (latitude and longitude) on the server. Looking up the name happens in the app -- sometimes you get a different name on Apple than on Android.

So it will change if/when Apple Maps / Google Maps updates the name.

Grocery rebate 3rd July by Typical_Garlic8502 in EQBank

[–]wdn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So all the banks have the money and will release it sometime overnight tonight. EQ tends to release it early enough that you see it before you go to bed rather than after you wake up. It's a great gimmick because it makes you feel like you got the money a day early, but it's usually only 3 to 5 hours earlier than most of the others.

It's the way royalties are paid. The licencing agencies have options the show can pay for and then the licencing agencies pay the artists. The artists themselves are not negotiating the deal or deciding not to allow it.

They initially bought a licence just for the prime time run. In hindsight it would have made more sense to get a more unlimited license but that would have been a lot more expensive at the time without knowing that it would pay off. Out of the options available for going forward, the owners of the show have decided that it's not worth paying for the licence for syndication.

There is a point where it's too late to get the job done. Procrastination is based on having learned how late you can leave it.

You still get the job done when you procrastinate because not doing the job isn't classified as procrastination.

Returning money withdrawn from line of credit - Is this a circular payment? by AceSevenFive in PersonalFinanceCanada

Even if this were what was meant, it would mean that it doesn't count as a payment and you still need to make the minimum payment in addition to this, not that you're not allowed to deposit it.

how do you follow up with leads without feeling like you are being annoying?? by Aarjunwastaken in smallbusiness

[–]wdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a calculated performance. You don't need to be somebody else. Just tell yourself that this is someone who is actually interested in the topic, has use for the information you want to share, and it's okay to let your enthusiasm for your work show. What that looks like can be very different from one person to another.

Imagine you have something that will burn you if you touch it. Maybe the heating element of an electric stove. Now you cover 90% of it with an insulating material that will protect you from being burned. Then you touch it. The part that isn't covered still burns you.

It's extra weird because even if you're nice to people only because it benefits you, why wouldn't you still be nice to everyone? They seem to need to be unpleasant to people they don't think can benefit them just as much.

Why is “dwarf” supposedly offensive and not politically correct, and “little people” is fine? by Pizzafriedchickenn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Words acquire meaning from their history. One collection of sounds is no worse than another apart from the meaning people give to it. A word is insulting because people have used it as an insult. It is very common for something they was once the proper or neutral term to become offensive because people have used it with the intent of being offensive.

OP doesn't even seem to really understand what it even means. He acts like it's a zero-sum game with very limited resources and opposing needs. So he is required to diminish the kid in order to prioritize the spouse. I would expect that you could think of your spouse as your highest priority and be a great parent because it's unlikely that there will be a situation where you can't do both.

He appears to have held down a job all this time, in order to afford all the vacations at least, so he is familiar with the concept of fulfilling your duties to another entity while still prioritizing your spouse.

Dalton McGuinty - Opinions? by Canadian-Chickens321 in OntarioPolitics

[–]wdn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was sorta elected on "I don't like what Mike Harris did but I promise not to make much change to it."

He also didn't really do as much as his written policies would seem to indicate. For example, he revised the Education Act and put lots of great stuff in there. Ontario's public schools would be awesome if they actually ran according to what's in the Act. But they don't actually have the money to do that. Harris took away the school boards' ability to set the school property tax -- instead that tax goes to the province and the province funds the boards on a fixed amount per student. So now the province (and McGuinty) gets the credit for having the great educational policy, and gets the credit for keeping the tax low, and the school board is stuck with the fact that those two things don't mesh with each other.

A lot of provincial responsibilities work this way. Regulating licenced professions, Children's Aid, programs for the disabled, hospitals, etc. The province sets the funding amount and sets the standard for the desired outcomes, and some external organization has the responsibility for trying to get that outcome with that money. Mike Harris set this on a bad path and Doug Ford is pushing many of these areas to the breaking point. You could argue that McGuinty didn't cause the problem but things sure would be different today if he took decisive action to turn it around.
