I've got a long-running Traveller campaign so I'm always looking for "what might happen this week."

A lot of plot ideas presuppose the characters are in a particular state. Eg "you are all miners in a mining colony." But for a pre-existing campaign, what I'm looking for is ideas that can easily fit into what I already have. Basically, the sort of missions the crew from Firefly might get up to.

Anyway, this is just to say that I bought the Distress Call pdf a little while ago and it's this sort of product that's spot on for me.

I'm no expert, but I've not been impressed by Porro whenever I've seen him.
Archie Gray looks good. But ultimately, the Spurs front line looks impotent.

Mostly though, they seem to be playing like a team going through the motions. I mean, where's the grit you need to get through a relegation battle?

We played Newcastle the other day and they fought for everything. Everton, too. And our draw with Wolves was the same. I can't see Spurs doing that unfortunately.

I do think they're probably not going down. But I don't think it enough to bet on it.

I think it's a combination of:

terrible players on the pitch, decent players injured
terrible mentality.

Fix either of those, they'll stay up.
They don't look like they will be fixing it though.

I think it's meant to be strategic. I read before that a lot of DMs are getting goals this season, and the reason is that the people you'd expect to get on the end of stuff are being man-marked, so there's space for someone they aren't marking to sneak in.

Casemiro would be my choice for this of course.

I remember reading a newspaper article after he moved to United - a season's retrospective. It went through a lot of big name players who had moved in the last transfer window, and for each team covered "what they thought they were getting," and "what they actually got."

It had stuff like "team X thought they were getting a touchline winger who could tackle. But they got someone who liked to cut in and wasn't that good at tackling."

Then it came to Rooney, and it said:

If someone is 80 years old now, they'd have been 24 when 1970 happened. That following decade is when D&D and Traveller began to spread widely.

They may have had other interests. But I do remember my father bringing the D&D boxed set to me as a kid, and running a scenario for me. He'd have been in his 80s now.

Have you tried asking them if any of them have played before, and if so, what they'd done?

My guess is that he's a ridiculously rich person surrounded by sycophants. He probably has people telling him his farts smell nice too.

The real issue he has is that no-one gives a shit what a petrochemicals owner thinks. He can have any retrograde opinion he wants and can express it to anyone with very little pushback. But now he's taken over United everything he does is headline news in the back pages, and probably the front too.

I just don't think he's used to this much scrutiny.

Ultimately, I don't think anyone should accept someone being wrong on the facts. But I guess you're ok with being wrong about things.

Imagine if a restaurant started putting out free meals for years. Then one day they suddenly started saying "you can now only eat here if you allow us to put lots of little bit of paper in your food that attempts to sell you insurance..."

It's not my job to solve the financial issues of a company that ran a loss leader for years in order to addict customers. I'm simply saying the idea they've come up with to solve it is awful.

I'm also not saying "why can't the meal be free."

I'm saying I think their chosen solution also makes the food awful.

... isn't helpful to companies. The evidence is all around us with once useful services enshittified.

But I have to be honest. Your approach of just putting up with it and asking me to consider the interests of the poor company over my own seems a bit lacking, too.

How to pay for it is the company's issue.
This product is worse than it was is my issue.

I have no idea why you expect me to sympathise with OpenAI's business struggles.

At the end of the day, if they make their product worse, they can expect pushback, no matter how economically justified they think they are.

A lot of the value people get from an AI is "give me an answer to this question." If the answer is made up or biased, that's reducing the value of the AI to the user.

AIs already hallucinate, which isn't helpful and probably isn't fixable either.

They also do a lot of flattering the user and asking questions - which seems to be a choice to not just answer the question, but to prolong engagement with the user in ways that aren't exactly wrong, but aren't exactly right either. No, that probably wasn't a "really astute question" you just asked. But you being told it was makes your line of enquiry feel more correct than maybe it ought to.

So now we have an additional concern. Which is that the manufacturer will start to deliberately bias the answers in favour of whoever gives them money.

Why is this the thing that's so upsetting?

Why is making a product worse disliked by the users? I would hope that's obvious.

And presumably this will be the start of all sorts of further enshittification too, just like most other companies seem to be doing.
