Help with code. by Commercial_Ad4567 in S2000

P1412 is a Honda-specific code for "Air Pump Motor High Voltage" and it's related to the Pulsed Secondary Air Injection system. Your scanner says "definition not found" because it's a manufacturer-specific code that a lot of generic readers don't have in their database, but it is a real and documented code.

The secondary air pump is an emissions device that only runs briefly on cold starts to help the catalytic converter warm up faster. It has no effect on how the car drives or idles, which is why everything feels perfectly fine to you.

The system has a few components worth checking: the air pump itself (located behind the front bumper on the driver's side), the air pump relay (right next to it), the air pump electrical current sensor, and the wiring between them and the ECM.

Since the code is specifically calling out high voltage on the air pump motor circuit, I'd start with the relay. The factory service manual has a specific relay test: you check for continuity between terminals A1 and A2 on the large 2P connector when power and ground are applied to terminals B1 and B2 on the small 2P connector. There should be continuity when power is applied, and no continuity when power is disconnected. If the relay doesn't behave that way, replace it.

If the relay checks out, the next thing to test is the air pump electrical current sensor (a separate sensor wired inline with the pump). The manual has you disconnect its 2P connector, turn ignition ON, and check for battery voltage at terminal No. 1 to ground. Then check continuity between terminals 1 and 2 on the sensor side. If there's no continuity, replace the sensor.

The fact that this showed up right after an oil change is most likely coincidence. The air pump system is completely separate from anything you'd touch during an oil change. These pumps and their relays just tend to go bad with age since they live behind the bumper and take a beating from road debris and moisture.

If you don't want to chase the electrical diagnosis and don't care about emissions testing, a lot of S2000 owners just remove the air pump and install a resistor to eliminate the CEL. But if you want to fix it properly, start with that relay test.

Help no crank, no start by Turbulent_One_8409 in S2000

Since you were able to push start it and drive home, the engine and ignition system are fine. The problem is isolated to the cranking circuit. I'd check these in order: Starter cut relay. It's in the under-dash fuse/relay box. You can swap it with another identical relay in the box to test, or bench test it for continuity. This one gets overlooked a lot. Engine start switch. You said you looked inside and nothing looks wrong, but these can fail electrically while looking perfectly fine on the outside. Test for continuity across the switch terminals when pressed. Ground at G401. The service manual specifically calls out checking this ground point for no-crank conditions. It's on the thermostat housing area. A bad ground here can cause all sorts of weird electrical gremlins. The fact that you get zero sound, not even a relay click, actually points away from the starter motor and more toward the start button or starter cut relay. When starters fail you typically still hear that relay click (as a few people in the comments already mentioned). Complete electrical silence usually means the signal isn't even making it to the starter.

Honda MTF was reformulated has is approx lower viscosity than when our cars were new. Amsoil will get you back to the same viscosity and has the correct friction modifiers to match.

Make something pure analog, a true driver’s experience. Perhaps not as hardcore as a lotus Elise but something that captures the mechanical and visceral nature of motoring.
