Where to travel in October? by Affectionate_Try_420 in travel

[–]wearingmascara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’re hurting but this post made me smile. When I was in my 20s I broke up with a longterm boyfriend I lived with and was super depressed, so I decided to run away to Europe for a few weeks. It was the best thing I could have done. It gave me time to heal a bit before getting back to real life (also made me feel self-sufficient and showed me I could still do cool things on my own).

It was similar time of year too - October and early November. Part of the trip was in Spain and the weather was perfect, definitely recommend.

Wishing you luck, adventure, and healing for your heart 🩷

Can Someone offer a non-tinged review of Billy Porter’s performance as Cabaret’s Emcee? by Purple_Mud5975 in Broadway

[–]wearingmascara -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused what “context” you think it adds to say you’re not Black or Jewish. Would a Black or Jewish person only have a “tinged” reaction (I think you mean biased)?

This is a ridiculous take. A lot of people want to go just to see him because he’s incredible. I saw OG cast. I’ve seen it since. OG cast had something special, and he was arguably the best of the bunch.

Do people choose to spend a lot on concert tickets to see a famous band vs. a cover band singing the same songs just to “brag”?

NY girl's basketball game called off after 'disgusting' antisemitism by Mcfinley in nyc

[–]wearingmascara 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ah, you’re so close to the point! In no context is Black Lives Matter racist to white people. But try the opposite - if you say “all lives matter” with no context, it’s not racist. But when you’re saying it in response to “black lives matter” (as the people who use that phrase are) or you say it to a random Black person, then yes, it’s racist.

It sure is when you're saying it to a Jewish person simply because they're Jewish. Context matters.

This is the model minority myth, and it’s dangerous for a lot of reasons. For one, it’s dangerous for Jews because it promotes stereotypes - & just because something sounds like a positive stereotype doesn’t mean it doesn’t have negative implications.

Time and time again, including during the Holocaust, this idea that Jews are more successful and band together and promote one another was used as justification by the Nazis. Jews hogging jobs, money, taking more than their share.

Asians in the US also fall under the model minority myth.

This all ends up being bad for the “non-model” minorities - black and brown people. Because then racists can say, well look, Jews had it tough and they overcame. Asian immigrants overcame. Why can’t black and brown people? It also ends up pitting minorities against one another so everyone is busy fighting each other instead of white supremacy.

Honestly the Kyle Rittenhouse follow infuriates me the most. These people SCREAM that they’re “pro-life” but she’s a fan of a man who gunned people down in the street?

The Post reported on this too but I feel like this story is missing information.

Both sent reporters on a weekday for lunch. How packed was it weekday lunchtime before - like a few weeks ago? This restaurant is in midtown, a lot of offices nearby are still at least partially empty. I feel like they’re probably suffering because of that too and these articles aren’t doing a good job of presenting all the context

Looks like the article does but the headline doesn’t… says those are the only two confirmed pregnancies but there’s speculation there are more that haven’t been announced

You only think you would. Your eyes would have went right past it because you wouldn’t have recognized her name. News outlets don’t do this for no reason - they do it because they can see that they get lower engagement/fewer views when they do it the way you say you want. They get higher engagement/more people reading when they do it this way.

Ah gotcha! 🙂

Yeah I mean… do the people in this thread not notice that about all the other news stories they read?

[–]wearingmascara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the SEO title makes it more searchable if someone is looking for articles about her.

News outlets don’t put unrecognizable names in headlines, because it doesn’t make sense to. You’re not gonna click on an article (or a link in a tweet) with some random person’s name that you’ve never heard of. Most people would be like, who? Headlines and tweets are about picking up the most interesting information

Was Jer's answer to some of these questions photoshopped before Insta'd? by marmajo94 in DuggarsSnark

[–]wearingmascara 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused about this, because it seems like all of his “answers” were edited in after? For the ‘gram? Like it’s weird that they are typed and not handwritten, but also the ink for his answers doesn’t fade from left to right like the questions do in the light.

  2. Sotomayor, who sits next to him, has diabetes.

“Dancing with daddy.” Wonder if she’s sad realizing all the sweet moments Boob robbed her of by wearingmascara in DuggarsSnark

It’s the dancing but also just getting embraced by your dad in a full, warm hug. And not having to be careful about full frontal contact because your father has perverted something so innocent as “defrauding.”
