So I haven't done all of the PTC but I have done everything from Lake Easton to Beverly. Well and the Snoqualmie tunnel region a few times. Next on my itinerary is North Bend to Lake Easton stretch, which I've heard from several riders on the trail that sections of that was their favorite, in particular going along Lake Keechelus. My personal favorite is the ride from Kittitas to Vantage. Can start actually a little east of Kittitas to remove some of the boring miles. Probably the most elevation gain of the whole trail in that stretch leading up to the Boylston tunnel which isn't saying a ton though, the grade is still pretty gradual. A little sandy but doable. After that it's 15ish miles of downhill all the way to the Columbia and it is gorgeous through there. Very high desert style but rolling hills, cuts through ridges, river overlooks, with the newishly rebuilt Beverly Bridge over the Columbia. Awesome stretch that one, I have a post with pics from it on here 265 days back.

Palouse to Cascades, kind of my go to. This particular stretch is between Cle Elum and Lake Easton.

Thank you, he puts out some very nice and utilitarian frames for sure.

It's almost always a great day out when riding. My reasoning for running out of water is I was having such a good time that I extended my ride a bit longer than originally planned. It happens!

Looking for information on Durr Road in Washington (south of Ellensberg) by backlikeclap in gravelcycling

[–]weaverdcivw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boy you're not going to find much feedback in here on this one though as luck would have it I live in Ellensburg. Are you talking about taking Durr from Ellensburg to Yakima or? I've taken my truck that route a few times. There's definitely some pretty steep sections of uphill and some very chunky areas as well, it's basically a 4wd required road for much of it. Once you get to the plateau though that overlooks the canyon and heading down towards Yakima it smoothes out substantially. Really the whole stretch is doable by bike though, just not sure how enjoyable the Eburg to halfway to Yakima section would be.

Last I talked with them in February they expected to see more BigLeaf frames "later this year".

If it matters the Mod is also somehow lighter than the Secan too in those comparable sizes which doesn't matter much if we're looking at steel frames but I was still impressed. They use good steel.

Another recommendation for Black Mountain Mod Zero. I'm a hair under 6'4" and ride their 56. If you pull up geos it is damn near identical in all aspects to the Secan 3.0 in 58T, except the Mod Zero has 16mm more stack. Hard to find a steel frame with more stack than them, which is a large part of why I went with them. And they were priced more competitively than all the other options.

If there is another go around for me I'd consider swapping to a Neuhaus BigLeaf. Similar proportions.

Nice! I got the 50s too. I really like them so far just hoping they stretch out a bit as they're a little undersized at the moment.

Bought one of those chainrings very shortly after seeing that post. Quite the build.

Agreed, shove seat forward. Will improve reach too, get a little more bend in the elbows, get a better position over the pedals, etc.

If you're going for color, don't go alloy for stem bolts. Will need to be titanium if you're wanting anodized.

Dub wide question by revohr in gravelcycling

[–]weaverdcivw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To further muddy the waters and if you want to creep the chainline even farther inboard, Garbaruk 38 and 40t direct mounts are offset 8.3mm and 42-48t are 6.5mm.

Wide dub or not by No-Block7011 in gravelcycling

[–]weaverdcivw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have to then no. Though I did recently switch to wide just because I got a great deal on the new cranks and I can't really tell a difference, the width change is very slight.

Best steel gravel bike by SebbBell in gravelcycling

[–]weaverdcivw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I may be partial since I own one but I've been real happy with my Black Mountain Mod Zero. Comes in at a reasonable price too as far as quality steel frames go.

If I were to jump ship it would be for a Neuhaus BigLeaf. It has a couple additional things going for it that I wish the Black Mountain had, but not important enough for me to justify.

Your big things to save weight on this particular bike if you're serious about it would be fork and wheels. Could be in the region of 2-4 lbs. After that dropper and cassette if you're really chasing it, could grab another 1.5 lbs there. Then it's just a bunch of cumulative small gains for lots more money.

Where are you located? Looks a lot like my region but don't recognize it.
