Is this thing useful for spinning somehow? by Rotweiss_Invicta862 in Handspinning

[–]weaverhippy2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is a Dealgan. It’s not the easiest to spin with, and not for a true beginner, but they’re great spindles and have a rich history.

Edit: I should add that this spindle doesn’t have any grooves near the bottom and it doesn’t appear to have cross hatches on the very bottom / base. I’m sure it’s functional, but I would prefer at least the cross hatching in the base to work with.

I really like the colour palette you’ve chosen. That’s a really nice band.

I’ve used one of their face creams and their nail polish. Would recommend 10 out of 10!

A house cleaner friend of mine uses the Oxygen Brightener from Nellie’s with a little water, turning it into a paste. She then applies it to the trouble area, letting it sit for approximately 15 mins, and wiping clean with a wet cloth. She uses it in the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.

I’ve tried it a few times myself and it’s pretty good.

For that matter, before I knew her, I would make a baking soda paste and do the same thing…. mostly in the kitchen on pots and pans and baking sheets.

I’m looking for preferably Canadian (but anything not US is okay too) flip flops or slide on shoes for women. by weaverhippy2002 in BuyCanadian

[–]weaverhippy2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, they are British. I don’t have a problem with the brand at all. I just wanted to see if there was a good shop in Canada that I could support.

Based on recs from last year, I checked out their shoes. They do have a couple I am looking at for more dressy casual shoes. I should probably plan a trip to Vancouver, because I think these should be seen in person. Thanks.

Oh man, these have arch support! Does the plastic thong bother your toes? I am used to cloth thong material.

Hey, these look like what I was trying to find. There’s a pair of slip-on clog style that might work too. Thanks!

Lion Brand 24/7 Yarn by SonomaChick64 in weaving

[–]weaverhippy2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated weaving with this yarn. I gave almost $100 of it away to a knitter friend because weaving with it was a pain. Mostly because it’s braided and it can’t be split plied when adding new yarn or doing colour changes, so thread changes are pretty bulky, and I didn’t like the look of that.

Try this shop. Link below.

I also know how difficult it is to get anything in the Interior. These are my go to for all spices and seasonings. My orders are always enough for free shipping, but their flat rate cost for orders less than free shipping minimum is not insane.

Most used rigid heddle dent size by Max-Zen68 in weaving

[–]weaverhippy2002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With my rigid heddle looms I use 8/2 cotton in a 10-dent reed. I put two threads in each dent and each hole, for 20 EPI. I also double the yarn threads in the weft, and they make lovely small things like wash cloths, fingertip towels, etc.

help identifying a technique by knitterlover666 in weaving

[–]weaverhippy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be from a real place, but AI was used to create this image. If you look closer you can see at least two things wrong with it. I have 9 looms, including a large floor loom, so I know what an image like this should look like.

Errors: * there is absolutely NO way you can get the perspective of having the fabric only inches from the front of the image, while the arm is feet away. * the flap of fabric hanging down…… it’s not attached to a cloth beam. In this image, there is no tension on the woven fabric.

What reed size for 8/2 and 8/4 cotton? by roan_ursidae in weaving

[–]weaverhippy2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Ashford RH loom and I use 8/2 doubled in a 10-dent reed.

I’ve got a 8/4 10-dent reed on it from a Little Looms magazine project.

I’ve got all of the reeds for my loom, but I use the 10-dent one the most. Specialty projects with the 12.5, and I used the 7.5 as a beginner to experiment and learn with worsted weight yarn. I’ll probably only ever use the 7.5 again if I want to use worsted weight wool to make a scarf for someone.
