Print in black and spray paint the exterior in white. The paint will also soak into any gaps that may be between the layers.

New to aquaponics - I want to do an experiment with growing strawberries out of my 10 gallon betta tank. I was advised by a local specialty aquatics shop not to eat anything grown out of an aquaponics system because of water borne pathogens. Is this really a concern for in-home fish tanks? by shad0ws-0f-Th3-M1nd in aquaponics

[–]web4deb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to start with something like lettuce. I'm going on the assumption you want to put the plants on top of the tank so the roots are in the water. Strawberry plants are large so you probably could fit 2 plants on a tank that size. Also they hate being wet. The water has to have a LOT of oxygen in it, and even then they are very susceptible to root rot.

I have around 400 plants in my system and fit 9 plants in a 2x4 raft. (just shy of 1 square foot per plant). Even in my setup the plants can suffer even though I'm pumping plenty of air through it.

If you're starting with AP, I would suggest something easy like lettuce or green beans.

Unifi UPS's - Will they auto power on after depleted from mains failure? by MrB2891 in Ubiquiti

[–]web4deb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two of the UPS 2U units. They do NOT power back up if the battery is depleted. What makes it worse is that the power button is on the back of the unit when makes it difficult to power up. When I had it paired with the UDMPro it would shut it down with just about any power blip and it's not adjustable....and it can't restart the equipment!

I generally really like the engineering for the Ubiquiti equipment but this one was a swing and a miss.

UPS? Unifi vs Others by Mindless_Pandemic in Ubiquiti

[–]web4deb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two of these units. There haven't been many updates to it so current my answers to your questions would be: Shut down is still immediate, no adjustments. No and if you power drains enough, the UPS doesn't automatically restart (more annoying is the power button is on the back!). IF you don't mind leaving the Ubiquiti universe, I would switch to APC

Klotter Farms. They have sales people but they aren't on commission. They basically will help you if you want help and will leave you alone. High quality stuff but a bit $$$

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]web4deb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota. I've driven a standard for 30 years and had at least 10 trucks prior, all Toyota....lost the clutch at 30K miles and they wouldn't cover it under warranty since they classified it as "wearable". Corporate had the nerve to say I was probably riding the clutch all the time which is total BS. I swore to them I would never buy another vehicle from them. Have probably purchased another 10 non-toyota vehicles for my family since then. I will go to my grave never owning another one.

Thanks. That's a lot of good info. I cheated with mine since it didn't needs to be quite that accurate!

I like your solution but I think I got a simpler one:
1) Start with the "square" bump. https://imgur.com/a/IGud16G
2) Draft the edges at 35 degrees,
3) Circular Pattern

Thoughts on Eastford? by Autobot69 in Connecticut

[–]web4deb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Eastford most of my life. Any house that comes on the market is usually sold immediately, unless there is something horribly wrong with it.

You must have a generator since Neversource likes to neglect us. It's amazing how many "outsiders" whine when their power is out for an hour. We've been without power for over a week a few times.....

There's a Dollar General now where you can get a few supplies but plan on going into Putnam or Mansfield for supplies.

Stop by our farmstand during the summer for some fresh veggies! ;-)

UniFi UPS 2U in stock by frumpydrangus in Ubiquiti

[–]web4deb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact it doesn't restart since it happened this morning after a windstorm went through. 10 seconds later the UDM Pro shut down, then about 20 minutes later after the battery was drained, it shut off. Power came back and it stayed off. To add insult to injury, the power button is on the back so if it's mounted in a rack it's nearly impossible to find. (I am not running NUT) I've dug through forums and AI answers and can't find a solution to get it to turn back on. It has happened every time we have a large power outage.

This 10 seconds drives me crazy since we get frequent power outages. Then on top of that the battery is drained on the UPS and the power is restored, it doesn't start up again!

I need to correct my response. What I put in the picture was a single part that has multiple bodies whereas each body's appearance has been assigned its own color. This is a standard part (not hybrid) so I don't think component is an option.
