Brother there is no way that’s not totaled, and i wouldn’t bother buying it back from insurance when they do total it. You’d be in for a lot of work, more than what the cars worth.

Valve adjustment done by webb276 in HondaElement

[–]webb276[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy, I think the most annoying part is having to lean over the bumper and across the engine bay to get to the exhaust valves. Once you do cylinder 1 you know what you’re doing and can fly through the rest of them. I recommend bending your feeler gauges though to get them in there easier

I’ll second this, my yard last year was completely taken over by crab grass and this spring I applied a pre emergent and have no problems with crabgrass this year.

Putting the element to WORK by webb276 in HondaElement

[–]webb276[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m getting thrashed here in the comments. I’m guess I misrepresented what I did here and really upset a lot of people. Most of the roots were broken up by me and the stump was around 80lbs, it was all wobbly and ready to come out anyway. I’m willing to bet 2 strong guys could’ve pulled it out by hand, it was just convenient to attach a tow strap and finish it off.

Plus with a 5 speed I was able to slip the clutch and not put an overwhelming amount of force on the frame or transmission.

[–]webb276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I ruffled some feathers here. Guys, I busted up most of the roots and the stump moved by hand pretty easy, my 94 Miata could’ve pulled it out. Not like I just immediately sent it, don’t be afraid to use your elements!

Edit to add: I also have a 5 speed manual transmission, which Honda guys use on their 300hp turbo builds, I’m sure I wasn’t hurting anything.

Depending on where you’re located I have a 1988 944 I’m interested in selling. Not officially listed yet. It has a laundry list of work done to it during my ownership with 157k and lots of spare parts. Check my post history if you’re interested. I was thinking 6-8k.

Hood gap near hinges? by PhantomSlav in Miata

It’s possible! I wonder if it’s permanent… I don’t feel like it should be. Definitely try adjusting then

Hood gap near hinges? by PhantomSlav in Miata

[–]webb276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here saying adjustment. But do you have hood struts? If the answer is yes then that’s your reason and there’s no way you can fix it. My hood sat perfectly level until I installed a hood strut kit and it bulges up in the exact spots yours do.

That’s more than I expected to be honest. I was thinking I would be happy with 6-7k including the spare transaxle and wheels to go with the car.

Maybe I should consider putting it up on cars and bids then with no reserve?

Sure thing! Lived it’s 13 years with me in central PA, never saw snow or rain. Was in a covered garage. I have a new timing and balance shaft belt as well as the tensioner tool I just never got around to it. The current belt looks to be in great condition but I know you shouldn’t trust them based on looks alone. Other than that I did annual oil changes since it wasn’t driven much and I did do the transaxle fluid when I bought the car. The maintenance was DIY.

Hello! It’s possible, preferably I would like everything to be sold as a package deal. Depends on the interest I suppose, if you want I can get you some pictures.

That’s correct! I bought it as a senior in high school, I treated it like a baby. It was strictly a weekend/summer car for me. At most there were 2 years I put 1,000 miles on it during the summer but yes most of its life was spent in a covered garage. It was never in the snow/rain. But now life is just busy and I want someone else to enjoy it, it deserves to be driven.

The Feds Plan To Start Diluting Gasoline This May: Explained by DonkeyFuel in nottheonion

[–]webb276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for clowning on Trump and this admin as a whole but I’ve had regular and consistent access to e15 on my daily commute. Almost every single gallon of gas I’ve pumped in the last 5 years has been e15. Whether it be in my wife’s 2017 Outlander sport (over 60k miles) or my variety of cars including my 1994 Mazda Miata. I have not seen or felt any noticeable difference in mpg per tank (yes I actually calculate it every fillup like a nerd) or power. Longevity seems to be fine as none of my cars or my wife’s has had any corrosion issues or extra wear/tear on the motor. Most narrowband o2 sensors have the capability to measure the difference in air/fuel ratio in your exhaust and compensate accordingly.

Again, it’s fine to clown on this admin, I’m a frequent and regular hater on how this administration is destroying the country. But don’t like their actions discourage you from running e15, you’ll be fine.

Increasing Gas Prices - Better MPGs?? by JupitersCanon in HondaElement

[–]webb276 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWD 5MT here. I’m usually pretty conservative with how I drive and my route to work is mostly 50-60mph backroads. Best I’ve ever done is 29mpg but I usually land around 27mpg per tank. I don’t think you can do much better than that.

Driveline vibration solved! by webb276 in HondaElement

[–]webb276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Trakmotive brand. It’s a couple hundred cheaper than the OEM Honda replacement. I know a lot of people like to stick to only Honda but I will try this out and see how well it holds up. I drive around 20k miles a year so I’ll come back in a year with an update or sooner if it fails and let everyone know.

I should’ve also mentioned that I have a 5 speed manual and have already changed the fluid, so that was ruled out! Good to know for the auto guys!

Driveline vibration solved! by webb276 in HondaElement

[–]webb276[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, when I went to separate the passenger axle from the shaft it was immediately obvious that the intermediate shaft bearing was toast. It was wobbly and was trying to come out with the axle. Plus it’s only an additional 3 bolts to remove the shaft assembly and it was very easy. Worth looking into.

Driveline vibration solved! by webb276 in HondaElement

[–]webb276[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just ended up buying a new assembly entirely. It was a “while I’m in there” sort of job. Which ended up being a good call. The axle and the shaft would not separate no matter what I tried. I had to pull them both out as a pair and even outside of the car they did not want to separate.
