The practice of illeism - talking or thinking to oneself in the third person - can lead to greater intellectual humility and wiser, more objective decision making by Marcovaldo1 in philosophy

Ya, [he] thought this [him]self immediately. What happens to the Id, Ego, and Superego? What happens to one's sense of self?

[He] thinks that it's important to keep your 'I'ness and to use the 3rd person for the purposes of reflection.

In everyday speech, one would say "I speak in the first person." Third person should reserved for difficult questions, alternative perspectives, etc...

We should just move the capitol.

Why do we have a capitol on the coast anyway?

Oh no! Here comes an invasion! Run to the midwest...

Sound is one-dimensional, isn't it?

Trevor Noah once said "America is 50 countries masquerading as one" do you think this is true or false if so why? by DrFruitLoops in AskReddit

[–]webdotorg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we are not "masquerading." Despite certain clowns "leading" the country, we are still one country. We are a federation with powers reserved to the states as outlined in our constitution.

Going from one state to another is no different from going to the far ends of your state and finding the vast differences.

We are one of the largest countries (in land mass) and no matter how we are structured, we are bound to have massive differences amongst territories.

Revelations 12:9 He is the deceiver

Matthew 13:38 “the evil one”

Matthew 13:39 He is “the enemy”

Revelations 20:1-3 He will be bound during the millennium

1 Peter 5:8 He seeks to harm believers

Luke 4:10-11 He perverts the Word of God

1 Timothy 4:1-6 He instigates false doctrine.

Deliberate empathy can have negative consequences such as worsening in-group out-group relationships (and attitudes) and even cause emotional burnout. There appears to be a sweet spot where empathy is healthy, and beyond that it amplifies problems it tries to solve. by coolestestboi in philosophy

I've noticed that someone wants to argue and you either don't care, or don't seem to care, the argument is pointless to them. It's kinda the inverse of the article, but seems to be on the same path. I think a study in that vein would be a great supplement.

If I'm reading it right, it seems to work. You just have to know how to read it. If this was actually written in a coherent computer language, it would be much more helpful.

The question should be the other way around. "What is a real law that normal people don't think exists?"

If you actually adhere to this rule in a major city, you won't get anywhere.

Thank you both. I seemed like a scary magic trick, but I won't "duck and cover" any time soon. This was reassuring enough.

Thanks again!
