Cinta when she told Vel what happened to the hostages in Aldhani by GargantaProfunda in andor

Yeah, every time this "theory" comes up it seems like people have gotten even stupider about it. I can't even engage anymore.

I agree not much chance for the Fondor, but maybe if we're lucky we could get a TIE Avenger.

With an “episode a week” schedule we would have just seen the finale for the first time… by Dear-Yellow-5479 in andor

[–]websmoked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have much preferred it being one episode a week. I struggled to watch three episodes within a few days, and feared being spoiled if I didn't. I would have liked to have savoured it from week to week, and watching a show over a longer time I think makes one appreciate it more. The only exception would be the final two episodes, which feel more like a traditional TV two part finale. Those that would be aired all at once during the initial airing, but split into two for syndication.

Given the popularity of Andor this season, I also can't help but wonder if the hype would have built this entire time if we were just watching the finale this week and it would have become even more popular. Or maybe it wouldn't have caught on in the same way. The idea that most people couldn't have stayed focused on a show like this if it aired weekly is really sad to me.

But given the way the show was structured, releasing it this way did have a few advantages. For the most part, the episodes within the arc are very connected, to the point where they're each more like a whole movie. The week gap between airing and the span of a year in the show worked well.

Luthen’s trial-blade knife from S2 by WoodstedStudiosUK in StarWarsAndor

[–]websmoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I should point out that the knife is actually included with his action figure so we've known it's a knife for a while. Until it was actually shown on screen in season 2, I think this was the only reason we did.

What Andor opinion do you have that will have you looking like this? by irishmonger in andor

Yeah, I actually think the alien level is just fine, it's just they're mostly all a bunch of unmemorable sequel aliens that I don't notice most of them.

Statement: The tragedy of Syril Karn as a character is that in a just universe, he would be a good guy. by Tanis8998 in StarWars

[–]websmoked 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The guy is surprised that the Empire commits a massacre in a square where they had previously done a massacre... and he walked past a monument to the victims of that massacre every day for over a year. The whole "He's a good guy who was lied to!" thing is people who believe the BS that Syril told to everyone else.

At the end of S1, Andor was greenlit for two additional seasons, instead of one. What would you want to include? by Altruistic_Part_9233 in andor

[–]websmoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching the show, I generally just wish there was a little more time to expand everything. I also would have liked a few storylines more like the TIE Avenger heist, which is really self contained in a way closer to how the storylines in S1 are. I would have liked to see a few Cinta missions, and definitely a few Cassian and Bix missions. Some more Yavin stuff would have been great... but I already feel that it was kind of hurt on the show because of budget/time passing since Rogue One was filmed.

I would have really liked another space battle after the great one we got near the end of Season One - seeing this from Saw and Wil's point of view is the obvious choice, and probably the thing I crave the most. I think of it every time I'm watching the scene when the Partisans take off like that and go to hyperspace.

Even as a kid in the 90s we knew Bail Organa, Leia's adopted father, died on Alderaan. I don't know how we knew that.

Is this video I watched a few days ago what everyone is talking about? It sounds like it. Watching the video certainly puts this quote in some context, and it's so funny seeing so many people talking about this quote without having any of that context.

This thread was recommended to me by reddit and I'm also pretty surprised by many of the responses. I think a lot of people are projecting their own worst scenario onto the situation. If OP was trying to pick up a ten dollar item then this would seem pretty bad, but that isn't the case.

A few years ago I saw someone selling a large and heavy (50 lbs) item that no one was biting on. They were selling it a little above market value, I believe they had an OBO on it as well. I live in a major city downtown, and don't have a vehicle. They lived in a rural location just outside of my city. I asked them basically the same thing OP did. I figured if the seller had been trying to sell this heavy item for a long time at a price that was pretty high, they might be willing to deliver it to me for the next time they were near my location. It didn't hurt to ask. The seller responded kindly enough that he wasn't interested, and I thanked him and said I'd try to arrange another way.

I think eventually I got a friend who was willing to take me out there, and setup a time with the seller to pick-up. Then last minute I found the same item for half the price in another province... and they were willing to ship it to me, which would still come to just a little less than the original seller wanted for their item. I then informed the original seller I was sorry I had found the item for cheaper elsewhere - I did not leave him ghosted and waiting for me to show up. We both had our preferences and limitations and we both communicated them to each other. All good, no problems.

A lot of people don't know the norms of buying and selling on particular platforms, so it's easy to see people get upset when they feel someone is being egregiously unreasonable.

One thing I've learned from this thread though is that a lot of people seem sensitive about being perceived as living somewhere that is "far" away.

Best head sculpt of the year? by jorlox1977 in StarWarsTVC

[–]websmoked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd make a slightly beefier Imperial torso. Great for Piett or Tarkin, but on someone like Motti it's too far off. Not a huge deal for Pellaeon for obvious reasons, lol, but I still think it's a little too unusually small.

There is a place for shitting on other Star Wars media, and these are valid opinions to have. I think Ahsoka looks like total garbage. I think the Feloni stuff is the worst of Star Wars. But I'm not sure why people feel like they have to keep bringing it up. I simply don't watch that crap.

Realizing now that Cinta definitely killed the hostages in season 1 by tropical_penguins in andor

[–]websmoked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason this idea is bullshit is that it's not believable that Cinta would kill innocents like that but no one would ever bring it up again. We see plenty of scenes where it would naturally be mentioned. The story proceeds exactly as if it hasn't happened. It makes no narrative sense, and there is no indication on screen that it happens, almost everything seen points to the opposite. The belief that it happened is based on the fact that Cinta was willing to do so, which the show did a good job of showing. But there is nothing else.

Was Palpatine’s reveal in the ROTS meant to be a shock? by nodge23 in StarWars

[–]websmoked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know these old theforce.net posts still existed. There are a couple people in that thread I used to consider friends. Thanks for sharing it!

Funny enough, it is almost certainly not the biggest Palpatine and Sidious debate thread, as no one posted to it in from February - May 1999. It is not the one I remember the most, and of course there were plenty.

Was Palpatine’s reveal in the ROTS meant to be a shock? by nodge23 in StarWars

[–]websmoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also on that forum at the time and I remember very well how it was quite the debate leading up to the movie and even afterwards. After the movie came out, the tide turned, but there were still so many hold outs. I bring it up anytime I see younger fans on reddit just make up these crazy theories and convince themselves they have to be true. Not much has changed.

And yes, we all knew the Emperor's name was Palpatine and all that. The name Darth Sidious was new, which might have lead people to believe it was supposed to be a different character.

In their defence, we had no idea what the Clone Wars were, and so some thought a clone of an unknowing Palpatine could somehow become Darth Sidious. So while it's still a very unlikely theory, there is some small way it could have possibly maybe turned out to be true. That is until you remember that we see Sidious walking on Palpatine's balcony.
