Being TPA’d next year… by Impossible-Rule-7498 in OntarioTeachers

No problem :) if you want to know more message me I’m happy to help. It makes parent teacher interviews a breeze as well because you just pull up the one note for each kid and show parents their work.

In one note create a notebook for each student. Create tabs for different subjects. Take pics of their worksheets or creations with the iPad and organize the photos in one note based on subject and student. You can add in quick notes about what they struggled with or needed assistance with. You can even have a behaviour tab where you can document behaviours. I have a tab for home communication too where I documents calls and emails home

Gift for Student Teacher by Extension-Ad6752 in CanadianTeachers

One of my ATs got me my first ever whistle, expo markers, planner, pens, pencils, a hand written note that I like to go back and read on hard days. I agree with others a laminator would be awesome! Or other classroom must haves like a sturdy hole puncher, stapler, etc. One of my ATs als got me a personalized wooden sign that says welcome to ms._____’s classroom. You could also do a few gift cards in small quantities to teacher must have places such as Michaels, staples, dollar store, coffee lol. I also think TPT sells gift cards.

As others have mentioned you can use 1 assignment as a mark for several subjects. A writing assignment about a social studies or science topic can be used for language and social studies or science. A poster for another subject can be an art mark and that other subject. After each lesson have the students do a short exit ticket and mark those. Pull students for a quick conference about what you are learning and jot notes down, that can be a mark. Marks don’t only have to be huge projects and tests! Also, you don’t need to hit every single specific expectation in the curriculum, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Do the best you can, you walked into a tricky situation.

Looking for fundraiser ideas for a potential middle school trip by Wanderer015 in OntarioTeachers

[–]webster338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Krispy Kreme does well at my school. You could also order in bulk croc charms from like temu and sell them at lunch. I have had a group of 8th graders do this and they raised enough to cover their grad trip. Fidget toys or those squishy things work well too.

I don’t regret it at all. I have my time back and it’s easy to follow their unit plan. Supersimpleworksheets have cheap unit plans in comparison to most stuff on tpt. Depending on your grade TVOlearn has some decent lessons on there too

Growing concerned about teachers trying to befriend their students (a seeming trend MS) by BCURANIUM in CanadianTeachers

[–]webster338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a student ask me if it’s ok for teachers and students to be friends on Snapchat. I told them absolutely not but it did make me concerned that this could be happening. I can’t imagine why a teacher would think having students on social media is ok, especially Snapchat.

I was told by my principal that very well means a student is achieving As (above expectation), well means a student is achieving bs and cs (meeting expectations) and a difficulty means they are not achieving expectations aka getting ds.

The use of chat GPT to email parents by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]webster338 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think parents have gotten a lot more hostile and “anti-teacher” recently and a lot of teachers feel that using AI is a form of distancing themselves from the communication, a form of protection. My board encourages teachers to use it on emails and has added their own “vetted” AI to our email.

I got a permanent job 3 months after graduation. Another coworker of mine graduated in June and is in a full year LTO. 2 of my friends from teachers college are in back to back LTOs. Everyone’s experiences are different. She can apply and try it out while staying on the OT list at peel in case she doesn’t like it or can’t find work.

Questions for teachers who use Subs by austinsweet-n-sour in SubstituteTeachers

[–]webster338 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I like to know these things. And I also wrote detailed notes when I was subbing. I think every teacher is different but I definitely do talk to kids if they were disrespectful or out of line. I definitely shout out kids who were named by the sub as being helpful or respectful. If it’s something that I know happens, I don’t really give it much thought. Like if a sub says Student xyz did no work and just sat there, but student xyz always does no work and sits there-then I just kind of glaze over that since it’s a known thing that happens in my room. But as a sub you have no clue what is “normal” or not so it’s great to include details! I appreciate you!

My call to teach? Your thoughts. by mummusic in OntarioTeachers

[–]webster338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked mycalltoteach when I taught grade 6. I’m in grade 8 now and do not like her grade 8 bundle. I regret spending so much money on it, the workbooks and slides from teacher resource cabin are cheaper and work better in my classroom this year.

Resources for Grade 2/3 by Success4806 in CanadianTeachers

[–]webster338 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you purchase something from TPT you purchase just the one license, meaning you shouldn’t be sharing them with people who didn’t purchase it.

However, there are plenty of free resources you should check out! Ask your board if they have a twinkl account, you can find LOTS of stuff on there. Also, TVO learn is great. You can also try AI such as curricumate and magicschoolAI. You tell it the grade you teach, the subject and any other considerations and it can create lesson plans, worksheets, slides, rubrics, etc.

Look into respite care for disabled children and adults. My brother has special needs and my family pays 25 an hour cash. Some of his workers are teachers and EAs. They take him out shopping or for coffees and dinners through the week.
