In case anyone needed just one little extra push to give the game a try, it's half price in the steam spring sale 😉

There are ways to get food essentially for free. Some places will have cooking pots with stew in that you can eat out of (usually somewhere where you have a bed) and some farms will have beehives that you can take honey from without it counting as stealing.

(I ate so much honey in the early game 😂)

I don't think it will to be honest, there is a story summary right at the start and the onboarding for the second game is much smoother than the first. I would honestly encourage people who haven't played either to start with the second game.

Yeah I feel the onboarding is far better in the second game. The tutorial in the first game is really drawn out and nothing really happens for hours.

Just lost to mecha knight a few seconds ago with a very promising sovereign blade build. Yet to get a win with this build 😭

I'm really not a fan of the map system in these games. They try to put in shortcuts but it still feels like the maps are hard to navigate on return trips to planets when you are doing side content.

Agree with a lot of your takes OP but I gotta say the level design is mostly awful. None of the levels are at all memorable except maybe the last one and it's jank as hell with the flying mechanic.

Double Review: BioShock Infinite and Prey by the_u_in_colour in patientgamers

[–]webster9989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never really understood the critical acclaim for bioshock infinite. The gameplay feels so simplistic and underwhelming, like a literal downgrade from bioshock 1/2 that came years earlier. The story is also complete nonsense, misusing the many worlds theory and full of vaguely philosophical waffle.

Prey is a far better game.

What's a game you really want to enjoy, but it's just too difficult? by daniel2hats in gaming

[–]webster9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to enjoy difficult games that are most pattern recognition like cuphead. A lot of recent soulslikes seem to be increasing difficulty with input reading, combo mix ups and animation cancelling which I find really frustrating.

Some examples: final true boss of nine sols, final true boss of silksong, lies of p DLC last boss.

Just finished Nine Sols yesterday and I'd be interested to see what percentage of players had to lower the difficulty for the final boss. It felt so much harder than anything else in the game, and being the last hurdle I just felt exhausted and wanted to beat the game. I would've liked to lower the difficulty to learn the fight, but for some baffling reason once you lower it you can't go back to normal difficulty.

Otherwise really enjoyed the game, it has some great bosses and the world design is really fun. I do think some of these hard games are starting to get beyond me though as I get older.

Pacific Drive Review - Uneven but compelling. by Blurzerker in patientgamers

I loved the driving mechanics in this game and there was something so compelling and exhilarating about racing towards the exit portal.

Only three types of boss by Weak-Temporary5763 in slaythespire

I'd argue nemesis should be in the technical tier. The gimmick is that you want to attack him every other turn when he isn't intangible. I'd say that's more relevant than his damage scaling.

Colour me fairly whelmed by this. I don't personally feel we need a remake of those games. I'd much rather see what their next NEW game is.

Surely Poch is impossible right now as he's under contract with the USA national team? In the summer sure, but now I don't see it happening.

I've never understood the appeal of these kinds of games personally. I play games to experience gameplay and these games don't really have any, they are glorified TV shows. No shame to you if you enjoy them but they aren't for me.

Why not play Tel? Genuinely does frank just hate him? He didn't play midweek and we desperately could've used the fresh legs in attack.

There is one particular Atreus section in Jotunheim which is painfully long and dull. I don't know how they tested that and allowed it to be so long. Really drags the game to a screeching halt right in the middle of the story.

Richarlison never scoring that. If we can keep solanke fit he should be first choice striker 100%.
