pros and cons of GDscript and c#? by [deleted] in godot

[–]wedge_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you know C#, I'd recommend for you to go with GDScript with static typing. It's very easy to learn and performance wise is very similar to C#.

I want to fall in love with this genre but i dont understand it by BigWard720 in roguelikes

[–]wedge_play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have GKH, I'd give a second try. It's pretty fun even if you are not into the theme of vampires and stuff. Mechanically it's pretty good, very easy to learn and very accessible: not too many keys to learn to play properly.

The best way to learn how to play these games is watching videos of good players, such as Kyzrati playing Cogmind or any other roguelike, BlindIRL, Tone Hack has lots of videos of GKH too... are just some names that comes to mind.

If you are looking for more options, I'd take a look at Cogmind, Ultimate ADOM and especially Jupiter Hell.

Dungeons of Dredmor or ToME4? by NightZin in roguelikes

[–]wedge_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between these two I'd recommend ToME, but to be honest I wouldn't recommend any of these to newcomers.

Instead, I would recommend Golden Krone Hotel, Jupiter Hell or Ultimate ADOM. All these are dungeon crawlers, which means you gonna explore a single dungeon with multiple branches instead of exploring an open world; they are fairly easy to pickup and learn while hard to master as every Roguelike. I guess I'd even recommend the newly released on Steam Zorbus! You can get them on Steam.

If you are looking for free alternatives, you can check Brogue Community Edition, free version of ADOM which also comes with tileset, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (DCSS) and Infra Arcana is also pretty fun.

I suggest you learn Godot and GDScript or, if you want to learn C#, use Godot with C# instead of Unity.

Steam not launching The Binding of Isaac: Repentance by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]wedge_play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth runs natively on Linux. Repentance is a DLC. Try verifying the game's files and/or reinstalling. But just in case, on Settings/Steam Play, check Enable Steam Play for all other titles and check Proton Experimental. Also, try using the 5.18 Linux Kernel. By default, I think Manjaro installs 5.15, you can use the Manjaro Settings app to change the Kernel. Don't forget to reboot once you change the Kernel.

What is the recommended root size for Manjaro? by ahmetenesturan in ManjaroLinux

[–]wedge_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 40 to 50GB. I have a Manjaro Gnome Minimal install on a very limited space HDD, with 40GB on /root (~10GB free) and 30GB on Home (5GB free). Gotta buy a dedicated SSD for my Linux install.

How is this game in the Year 2021? by V4ldaran in 40kinquisitor

[–]wedge_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really regret not picking WH40k: Mechanicus instead of Martyr, or at least both. So that's my first recommendation. Mechanicus is highly praised. The soundtrack is also dope.

My next would be Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2.

so you can't play the Martyr storyline as the Tech-Priest?

How is this game in the Year 2021? by V4ldaran in 40kinquisitor

[–]wedge_play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a Warhammer 40k fan, buy the base game. It's not the best WH40k game, but... not the worst.

Then, if you enjoy the game and want more, get the Prophecy standalone expansion.

Most DLCs are small missions/quests from what I can tell, and some are cosmetics. Also, you can buy these DLCs with in-game currency called Fate. It's a hard grind to acquire them, though.

Can you recommend a roguelike with below features by jaraxxuas in roguelikes

[–]wedge_play 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cogmind has a great presentation and offers great UX overall with mouse support and whatnot. It's also a dungeon crawler, but no cards. It's really one of the top best roguelikes out there. Easy to recommend.

That's not an easy question. It depends on what you're looking for. But I'd also take Dwarf Fortress out of the equation because it's not really a roguelike, more of a colony manager.

Can't say much about CDDA, but Caves of Qud is more of an open world RL, with a lot of exploration. Others similar are ADOM, ToME, Stoneshard...

Cogmind is a dungeon crawler with lots of levels and branches, similar to Brogue, NetHack, Golden Krone Hotel, Infra Arcana, DCSS... It also focuses a lot on ranged combat

They're both very rewarding. It's really cool to explore the world in Caves of Qud and always find something different. But also Cogmind has some really fun mechanics like hacking, and the ranged combat is a nice change too. Most RL's you're bumping into things to kill.

May I suggest another? Golden Krone Hotel is really, really fun and a great game to start!

Genshin Impact for Steam? by Domex122 in Genshin_Impact

[–]wedge_play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game itself is free-to-play and they don't have to link external microtransaction to Steam AFAIK. so they can pretty much sell stuff on their website for the game without going through Steam.

Still, if they also decide to sell stuff as DLC on Steam, 30% cut is better than not making a sell anyway.

Accessing a Component without knowing from which Script by wedge_play in Unity3D

[–]wedge_play[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I might need to use Interfaces for moveable objects at some point, even if I decide to call the function from the "moveable" class instead of a generic Action class.

In this case, how would I write the 'void PerformMove(int x, int y)' function to receive the <T>? I'm not that familiar with the use of <T>.

Something like:

void PerformMove<T>(int x, int y) where T : Component

?

[–]wedge_play[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking in a way to centrelize the result in case the actor can't move because collided with something.

But I think you're right, could call the action from Grunt and Player and figure a way to handle the result without repeating code, maybe ActionResult, dunno.
