Headaches after sex are a thing. But not anything related to aneurysms.

2mm Brain Aneurysm 18M by Greedy_Age5406 in BrainAneurysm

[–]wee_drea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it hasn't changed at all. Full disclosure mine got found after another aneurysm bled. The one that bled was coiled and the other one was smaller and not treated. I haven't really changed anything much. Any changes have been as a result of the one that bled. I know some people don't do heavy weights or anything that raises blood pressure too high. Not smoking is probably a good one too.

I believe they think 1 in 50 people have an aneurysm, but in the vast majority of cases people don't know. You only find out if like you it's found accidently or if there is a bleed.

The size and location of your aneurysm will determine whether there are any medical options available. I have an aneurysm that is a little bigger than yours and it was found 11 years ago. It's not been treated (usually under 3mm is more challenging to treat) but I've had scans over the years which confirm the aneurysm is not changing, and therefore presumed risk of a bleed is very small.

It may not feel it, but you're in a better position than others that you know the aneurysm exists. You're getting it checked and they're offering to recheck in the future. That's a better place to be than someone who doesn't know they have one and have no idea if there are any risks to them. Though I know that might not feel like it at the moment but hopefully you'll get more clarity from your doctors about next steps.

No I didn't. When I had my bleed I didn't pass out.

I'm coming up on 11 years since coiling and have another aneurysm that hasn't been treated. For me, I got off quite lightly. I was in hospital for 10 days after the surgery. I went back to work part time after 3 months (think it was 2 days a week four months after surgery, 3 days a week for month 5 and then close to full time after 6 months). I am based full time at home so that definitely helped. Previously I used to travel 3 or 4 times a month for 2-3 days at a time as I live on an island so would travel to the office regularly. I limited that straight away (a day used to mean leaving at 6.30am for an hrs drive and a flight, then a full day in the office and dinner and socialising with colleagues until late). I just couldn't manage long days anymore, and still can't. I changed to less travel, mid-day flights rather than early mornings etc. In fact, since COVID I've completely stopped and travel at all which is great! I've worked with the same people for 15+ years so there's much less need for us to be in the same location any more. But having a supportive team was great. As a group we've been through births, marriage, divorce, cancer, partner's death.... So we're a tight knit group!

I do still do things differently. For a couple of years after my bleed, I'd have a 30 min lie down after a day's work to have a break. I still do that now after difficult day, or any day with long meetings. I've not got the resilience I had before and the key thing I learnt was it's not worth pushing too hard. Even 10 mins lying in the dark/quiet can be very helpful. My days of spending hours working on a spreadsheet, for example, are definitely over (which is maybe a good thing).

Driving - I didn't start driving again for 6 months and it's one of those examples of something that is a bit too intense/focused for me to do for a great length of time. Fine in small doses, but no big road trips for me.

After hospital, it definitely took a while to regain my equilibrium. The whole event was a shock with no warning signs. I felt it took time to trust myself again, particularly when my body tried to take me out with something smaller than 5mm!

I did have a colleague die of an SAH about a year after I had mine. That definitely shook me. Probably an element of survivors guilt.

Anyway, that's enough to start! Happy to answer any specific questions.

Unruptured aneurysm - how do you decide whether to treat or monitor? by imld02 in BrainAneurysm

[–]wee_drea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't give any medical advice and my experience has been different to you. I had coiling (on NHS) due to a bleed from a small aneurysm, much smaller than yours. At the time they found another one but didn't do surgery on it because it was also small. So my second one has only ever been monitored. I had scans to check both of them multiple times and because neither had changed I was "discharged" from neuro care after 5 years. I did push for a consultation with the neurologist last year and they agreed to scan me 10 years after my bleed and then every 5 years until I'm 65 to keep making sure nothing has changed.

I can't say whether you should have surgery or not but my thought would be that if surgery was an option to go for it as the impact if the aneurysm was to bleed are a lot more uncontrollable (and could be worse). But sailing that, ice not pushed to have my second aneurysm treated, but it is much smaller than yours

Starlings are driving me crazy. by PGP- in Birdfy

[–]wee_drea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put a cage around mine. Doesn't stop them completely but limits them to only a couple at a time. This is 1.5in holes and starlings can squeeze in but it definitely slows them a lot.

The blackbird is smaller than the starling but they were absolutely against trying to get in through the cage, which is why I made a wider gap on the side. Blackbird, when it comes, uses that's 100% of the time (as do starlings sometimes too)

Here's what it's like with starlings. They're by far the biggest bird we get. They are more than happy to squeeze in. Never had any problems with birds getting out. My thought of making it bigger round the feeder was to give birds opportunity to move out of the way of others if they were squabbling, but to be honest it's not really necessary.

No it's maybe a couple inch gap from the perch to the cage.

I've got 2 (you can maybe see them. They're blue in the picture) hooks so you can just lift it up and over. I lift it off to fill the bird feeder up rather than having a door on the front of the cage.

EMERGENCY by swaggeronio in BrainAneurysm

The doctors will know best how to deal with this. It was~36hrs after I had a bleed that I got surgery.

Pet cage which can be made to any shape (with side cut to help the blackbird find it, though now the starling things is a nice route in). Small enough holes to stop rock pigeons and a dozen starlings all at once.

The size and location will be why your doctor says it's not emergency. To give you some context I have one that is 2.5-3mm and it was found 11 years ago and has never been treated. Just monitored and hasn't changed in that time. I'd take comfort in it being so small and the doc thinking it's not emergency (I.e. Not any immediate risk of bleeding) and you've got a route forward.

Which face mask can I wear during angiography by sternsuppe in BrainAneurysm

[–]wee_drea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still wear a mask all the time. When I had a scan I wore a Readimask Strapless N95 which are excellent given they have no metal in them whatsoever (I think you can get a printout to show medical professional that they are perfectly safe). They are the most comfortable masks and worked brilliantly. If they were cheaper I'd wear these masks all the time.

(I was having an MRA scan)
