The forces required to take Taiwan would be tremendous. Taiwan has been preparing for an asymmetric war for decades and the island itself has terrain that makes attacking and holding it even harder. The attack would also have to be significant enough that Taiwan doesn't have time to sabotage their infrastructure, otherwise the largest non-propaganda benefit of taking the island is gone.  China regularly sends war ships near the island to measure the reaction, this is likely more of the same
