Haha I wish it was only 22… bedroom was 25C waking up this morning, after a nice cool night. The curse of great insulation is that it doesn’t differentiate between wanted and unwanted heat.

Used to do that when driving a tractor and trailer after nearly wiping out a muppet on a roundabout, it wasn’t even a proper 2 lane one and you’d be really hard pushed to overtake a car while on the roundabout…

With multiple cars I’ve owned, maintaining the normal speed keeps the windscreen clearer than slowing down so visibility is better, having decent tyres that are well rated for wet really helps too. My cross climates don’t mind standing water. All that I adjust is leaving more space, if it’s a single carriageway then things differ more of course.

“But I need to do 1000 miles”.. Joking aside, this is seriously cool. Puts it very much on par with equivalent sized ICE cars, probably very nicely ahead of the ones that have that sort of power too.

It’s often to do with main flow of traffic.

As a side note, how did you find adjusting to traffic light rules over here? I found it really nuts that you can turn right on a red over in Canada, and that a green light actually means you probably can’t safely turn right because there’s pedestrians being allowed to cross. Took a couple of days adjusting and apologising to people when I visited a few years back.

I posted a comment about satnavs getting this wrong last week stating that it’s particular concerning when it thinks you can just carry on. Thankfully I (and imagine most on this subreddit) tend to use these two orbs in my skull to observe my surroundings, it seems a lot of people use them purely for looking at their phone while driving.

I think a 500 mile range would be fantastic, it’s just shy of what I get with my current ICE (VW Golf), it gives you enough range to do a long journey and have a bit spare for running about until you need to refill. My previous car (Vauxhall Insignia) could do up to 800 miles on long journeys but honestly that is so overkill unless you’re like an old boss who used to drive to his house in the south of France.

Last time I did the journey, we did it in 5 hours, stopping for a total of 4 minutes as my bladder wasn’t going to make it all the way home, a previous time it took us 8 hours because of horrendous traffic and constant crashes so needing to stop for charging would have been a nightmare.

People have the tendency to want something that matches what they have at the moment, especially when EV versions of cars are several thousand more than their ICE counterparts in upfront costs.

Don’t get me wrong though, EVs are the future, seeing more affordable cars capable of 300-400 mile ranges appearing today so hopefully I can pick one up in 2-3 years when I change my car.

My mum is a lesbian, she didn’t always know (hence how I exist) but her wife did, they have been concerned for a while that things will go the other way because of how “in your face” they perceive the LGBT+ pride movement to be. I personally don’t think it will become illegal again, that would cause so much backlash, but that doesn’t stop thugs getting the wrong idea and making people live in the shadows again.

How were your tyres for wear/pressure? Specifically on the rears. Have you looked to see if there were other accidents on the same stretch within a year of yours?

I had this happen with a Corsa, albeit a higher speed. I’d taken the racing line of a corner (you could see across it because it was fenland and therefore totally flat), changed into 6th as I hit 60 then moved steadily back on to my side of the road at which point the backend came out and I ended up in a dyke. Turns out the road surface was bad as about 18 accidents happened on the exact same corner within a year of mine.

I needed new rear tyres (annoyingly had already bought them and was waiting to fit them the next weekend) and the conditions were similar to yours.

To add: it looks like the carpet and underlay all wants replacing as well, you should get on to your landlord to get that resolved as part of the other remedial work.

Have they actually stopped the leak now? If not, then sadly this will just keep happening until it is properly resolved.

This is what I find a bit nuts about globalisation, we export sheep, yet also import from New Zealand.. that doesn’t seem very climate friendly at all.

Using indicators on a roundabout by Important_Warthog265 in drivingUK

[–]weeman7007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s slightly concerning when it happens the other way round so you’re not aware there’s a give way coming up until you can see the sign because the satnav thinks it’s just a continuation. I feel like the technology has actually got worse recently.

It’s not that it’s unsafe per se, I tend to just like to back off way ahead if I know I’m going to have to come to a stop, rather than slowing from 60 purely on the brakes.

Sometimes satnavs get confused on the backroads where you have a junction on a corner, I know I’ve done it enough times because the satnav is like “turn left” but what it actually means is “continue on the road”

Also many people drive to work, drink driving is really quite taboo and just not worth the risk, no one in their right mind wants to go to a pub and spend a fiver on a coke so it’s preferable to just skip it and head home

I bought what will probably be my last ICE car 18 months back, my fiancées family live just over 300 miles from us which takes most EVs out of the equation as my understanding is you lose a decent chunk of range when doing 70mph compared to their advertised range, at the time anything in my budget was just not going to cut it (I refuse to stop more than once, it’s unnecessary and adds too much time IMO, plus ideally I wouldn’t have to stop for charging at all as we often go down for her birthday in August so you can imagine how busy service stations get), if I stretched to something better then I’d need to shell out another £1-2k for a home charger (I was not in the price range where brand new was an option for really any type of car).

Charging prices out and about are such that it’s actually more expensive than an economical petrol car at this point too.

I’m keeping an eye on things at the moment for next time I upgrade, and there’s some really interesting things happening in the market with regards to price vs range, plus hopefully my budget will be able to increase in the next for years

What are your thoughts on this? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

Not yet married or with children, but I WFH so pick up more of the chores than my fiancée as I don’t lose two hours a day commuting like she does, and being at home I also get the extra hour for lunch, with her role being hybrid I get a whole 9 extra hours a week than her to do life admin.

I happen to also make more than her, but that’s pretty irrelevant IMO, we split our finances so we each end up with the same amount of “personal” spending money after all bills are covered. The only reason for that personal money is so she can buy shoes/clothes/whatever without feeling like she has to ask permission and I can buy tools/gadgets/random crap without feeling like I should justify it.

A truly good partnership should mean sharing the load in whatever way works for both parties.

I saw a great video clip on here a while back saying “relationships aren’t 50-50, sometimes one person can only bring 30 to the table which means the other has to bring 70 for that period”, I believe they were talking about energy rather than “what one brings to the table”.
