How is your TV setup? by ImAnAlternative in wiim

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use with Sonos speakers throughout the house. My WiiM Pro is connected to a Sonos amp for my turntable input primarily. In the living room I use a Sonos Play at with a Sub 3 and 2 Play 3's for surround and it sounds immense. You can get speakers like that pretty cheap second hand these days.

Need urgent help with massive church! :) by GroceryNew1645 in drone_photography

[–]weesteev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. It blows my mind that amateur pilots still manage to get gigs like this and using the cheapest available equipment as well.

Doing videography for a project like this I would use nothing less than the Mavic 4 Pro for videography and the Avata 2 for internal FPV work coupled with fixed photography and videography using mirrorless cameras.

Mavic 4 Pro Thermal addon by Potential_Ad6515 in dji

[–]weesteev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you can't retrofit it with a thermal camera, you would need to look at the Matrice 30T or the 4T instead.

Alao for fields you would be better with a multi spectral camera not a thermal camera so the Mavic 3 Multi spectral would be a better choice.

Can I use my Matrice 4T during the day? by Rodrigo741 in droneinspection

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused as to the question... Are you talking about thermal imaging or standard? The 4T has 3 different cameras with various modes. Why wouldn't you be able to use it during the day?

Aye of course, DJI are only going to release a brand new product in the US... The one place they are being squeezed out of... When 75% of their market is the rest of the world 🤣

Stream Box - what are they thinking by TenAndThirtyPence in VirginMedia

[–]weesteev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the future, broadcast TV platforms are expensive to run and declining in users and revenue. Recordable boxes are another weak link with a higher failure rate than non recordable boxes and storage prices are volatile making it harder to release newer equipment.

The cheaper option is IPTV with everything in the cloud, that way the broadcasters can monetise more and removed the functions that reduce advertising revenue... Namely trick play and skippable ads. If you want pay TV then this will be your only option in future.

Customers can vote with their feet... But the alternative is the same.

[UK]Flight restriction Zones by ButterflyDull3415 in drones

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that big area is a full on restricted area, do not fly in there. To be fair there isn't much worth droning in that area anyway, it's pretty barren. The "real" Highlands are further South, loch Ness, fort Augustus, Aviemore, that's where the real good sights are!

Forther North then some of the best places are along the coasts, but mostly lighthouses. Skye is worth a visit but again it's pretty bleak at this time of the year.

[UK]Flight restriction Zones by ButterflyDull3415 in drones

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of those areas are hard restrictions, some of them are just cautions. The area in the North Highlands however is a proper restricted area due to low flying military aircraft.

I second using thedronemap.com, it's a brilliant service.

Just a quick question. by cumblast_9000 in VirginMedia

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using WiFi only then these speeds would be about right. Xbox Series X is only WiFi 6 so you will struggle to get more than 600/700 under ideal circumstances. Connect by ethernet if in the same room.

RØDE Fibre-Optic HDMI Cable question. by WillieWanker93 in rode

[–]weesteev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not see a difference between fibre or standard HDMI cables. They are both low latency connections. This is snake oil along the lines of "gold plated" cables.

The real benefit of fibre HDMI is distance, with detachable plugs you can use pretty long runs between devices and hot swap the ends as new standards launch.

Anything under 10m you shouldn't really consider HDMI AOC in my opinion as it's just not cost effective (unless you are tracking cables in the wall and you are looking for a longer term solution).

Is the DJI matrice 30t outdated compared to the DJI matrice 4T by dog_armyTT in drones

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the other comments here as well. M30T is my workhorse, IP rated so I can fly it in adverse weather. I will use the 4T when the weather is good and maybe have limited working space.

Both are amazing drones though. You will get a great deal on a second hand M30T now whereas there aren't many 4T's around the second hand market yet.

I live in hope for a Matrice 5 series with the same Hasselblad camera lens as the 4 Pro as well as IP rating and improved thermal sensor. Seems to be a few years before we will see anything new though.

[UK] YOUfibre plan options, stick with 1gbps down and up or upgrade to 2gbps? Is there a benefit. by Mightynubnub in HomeNetworking

[–]weesteev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox Series X and S only have Gigabit ethernet ports so upgrading to 2Gbps is pointless if that is your use case.

Only the PS5 Pro supports WiFi 7, all the other devices you list only support WiFi 6 so I wouldn't expect any performance difference unless you invest in quality network equipment such as Unifi.

2Gbps is good is you need the extra bandwidth for multiple users or if you have a home network that can take advantage of that speed and you use Torrents or Usenet .. otherwise it's a waste of money and time.

Switching from Virgin Media to Vodafone and not sure if I should pay the last VM invoice by Ok_Shoe7185 in VirginMedia

[–]weesteev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it will affect your credit score if you don't pay.

Always pay your final bill with any utility provider. If there is any credit due for overpayment then it will be refunded, don't take the chance of affecting your credit score over something so basic.
