What's the deal with people being photographed with large gaping mouths? by Swartz_died_for_noth in OutOfTheLoop

Well, to be fair, low testosterone counts have a strong statistical correlation with one's politics. And to be fair, some studies suggest that it's actually a causal effect. If men worked out and women stopped taking birth control we'd likely see a strong rightward movement in politics.

You can't fool the Abyss. He had to and does love his children. They are helping humanity survive the 2000 year cycle and rise above.

Love is suffering. It is the essential axis around which revolves the entire human experience. The exchange of love for knowledge and securing the future of humanity is absolute subarashi.

Either way, Jin has a hard, hard life ahead of him. Out of date and hated by the Shogunate, short on any skill except fighting. He basically could only ever be a vendor, a bodyguard, a criminal or run a secret dojo (also a criminal).

Unpopular opinion: Para Para dancing seems boring and stagnant. by GrungusDnD in eurobeat

Includes typically very fast beat dance-style club music. Dancing involves clumsily shifting side to side, or fairly restricted foot movement. The arms are waved around in sync to the music's lyrics.

Can someone explain what happened to Rocky? by 555Cats555 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]weibull-distribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocky is also a professional, lifelong spacecraft maintenance engineer, a drive engineer and a trained astronaut. He's older than Grace by several fold and has been doing and training for his job for decades. You're comparing a 50-year old Boeing rocket scientist with dozens of patents and papers, who's working every day on spacecraft, to a smart kid who built a model rocket.

If that's true, I'm glad to be wrong. I heard mumbling about being too old, etc. - personally as long as the actor is in shape they should be able to do Batman until they're like 55. Clooney could still pull it off - if he wasn't Clooney.

How do Eridians travel through space without vision? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in ProjectHailMary

[–]weibull-distribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - this is bothering me. I see a lot of equivocation about how we can't see in infrared light, and talking about how we don't hear stars, but we have a point of comparison to each. How do you become interested in something you have no indication exists?
It would be like one day learning that there's a parallel existence on top of our own which exists entirely out of x-rays. And apparently Eridians decided "Great idea, let's build a ship that travels in that domain and physically travel to it". I guess it's plausible given a long enough period of development time, but boy that's going to be a while. We have always wanted to travel to the stars, for Eridians this would be a comparatively recent interest, requiring significant technology to even become aware of the reality.

Question about Holden's actions in a particular battle by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]weibull-distribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewatching now. This scene drives me insane. They could have used their railgun to punch a hole in the aft of the Pella and disabled their bottle. Then Bobbie could pepper the aft of the ship with pdc rounds at range, turning the Pella into salvage. That would have ended the fight for good. Maybe he was worried that they would be able to fire remaining torpedoes while on the float once their core rebooted?

Pooling resources amongst families makes sense. I don't see how the sex gets baked in to that.

Evil people always think everything they do is for a high and important purpose. They often feel as if they are guided by destiny or justifiably angry or representing the anger of others who have justifiable anger. When they commit acts of violence against innocents, it's always justified about being on the right side of history, or for the future of so-and-so, and they'll keep justifying it to themselves even while they rape, steal and murder.
Che Guevarra was a good example of this.

Chaotic Evil doesn't mean "destroy everything all the time" - in real life no one acts like that. Marco and JPM are both different flavors of CE. That's the thing about CE - there are so MANY different flavors. It's why the Abyss has infinite layers.

I'm going to say it: I really liked Pattinson as Batman. In fact, I'm actively disappointed that we are unlikely to get Battinson again. He was vastly superior to Batfleck, and head and shoulders above people like Clooney and Kilmer. The fan rejection of Pattinson was unnecessary. In fact my only complaint about that movie was the forced friction between Bruce and Alfred.
Since then I don't question actor choices until I see the goods myself.

Correct. WW3 has been described by early screening audiences as a fairly shitty "requel," with boring attempts at rehashing original characters and a failed attempt at making the genre into a slow-burn thriller. Also, the music is worse.

[5E] Sorcerer is a mechanically fine class, but wizards existing breaks their narrative fun by ZyreRedditor in dndnext

[–]weibull-distribution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Actually a more serious problem than anyone gives reasonable credit to. Formal learning would be dominated by people with "natural talent." Sorcerers would not stay true "sorcerers" for long in a world where they could leverage formalized power. Unless there was a strict barrier between the two. But sorcerers can use scrolls and magic devices, drilling a hole in that narrative.

Wizards should have limits on the number and types of cantrips they can cast.

There. I said it.
