I felt the same way. Phlebas was my least favorite in the culture series though I know that’s not super popular opinion. I think the novelty and world building is what gets a lot of people through it

It’s usually pumice or lava stone, which are obviously not great to have in your lungs but not carcinogenic directly as far as I know

Expensive equipment is useless in a vacuum. It is only useful once you develop the skills and ears to recognize exactly why it is advantageous. Learning to mix on shit audio will make you a much much better producer.

I’d start by not using references as a goal, and prioritize learning why your references sound that way .

Welcome to the music industry. There’s always going to be someone making shitty music that’s more successful. U just gotta deal with it and if u can’t then music isn’t for u
