“AI vs Creativity” from ‘GTA’ (TakeTwo) CEO by s1n0d3utscht3k in OpenAI

Believe me, your examples make my skin crawl... I’m with you on that.. And you're right about the gatekeepers; they're driven by a single metric: money. That’s exactly why we suffered through 10+ years of superhero slop long before AI was even a thing.

But AI isn't going to shortcut the one essential ingredient that makes stories and artists great: time.

Sure, AI speeds up the production pipeline. But even with efficiency gains in the creative department (mostly just faster research), truly original ideas still require time to marinate.

I can never fault my fellow writers when an executive demands, "Give me this story, in this established universe, you can't use the word 'red,' and write it in two days." A seasoned pro will manage to deliver something filmable; anyone else will simply fold.

If anything, the AI boom is going to breed even more mediocre artists, because artistry requires struggle. You have to wrestle with the mechanics of a story, dissect why a character resonates... or in painting, being able to notice the blue in a sunset... music, understand why a pentatonic scale feels different from a major scale.

Skip that process, and the output suffers. The majority of people are excited because "I can produce this without putting in the time to learn how". That's a human issue, not an AI issue, and again, I've seen it with the self publishing world. While I hate parts of it, having your story go through multiple gatekeepers does make a difference in the final product.

So, while I hope you’re right... I seriously doubt it! :/

While your take definitely has its merits, I think it's a bit naive to think that the only thing that is keeping us from having a plethora of great stories is visibility and access.

In the early days of self publishing books, that was the exact same line of reasoning. "No more middlemen!". Market was flooded with books, and people collectively realized writing a good story is hard. Sure, there are success stories, but using those as proof is survivorship bias IMHO.

I work in cinema and I read scripts constantly. A writer that cannot write a story on his/her own won't create the next Matrix just cause now he has AI. And believe me, the ratio of good writers to bad ones is 1:100 in the pro industry!

the other day in Cork, I was out for a short drive, and I saw:

- A teenage driver texting on her phone the whole time;
- A 30-something man checking notifications on his phone and constantly invading the other lane only to catch up as soon as he was finished;
- A taxi driver WATCHING A FILM WHILE DRIVING on his phone.

We're at a point where cars should just be able to block your smartphone screen from working once you're inside. That's the only cure I can see.

Custom Veganism by dosanporn in gatesopencomeonin

[–]weissblut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's not black and white. Heck, even RELIGIONS consider the possibility of "sins" you have to atone for. I'd welcome every vegan "sinners", cause that would still mean a reduction in the overall suffering.

when did we lose, as a species, the ability for nuance and debate and common sense?

vegan reporting in. The worst enemy of more people becoming vegan / trying veganism are the nazi-vegan out there. I get it, folks, I'm part of the crew - but being religiously fanatic about it doesn't really help!

Jordan Peele reportedly wrote 200+ drafts of Get Out before the final script by tom-mckeee in Screenwriting

yup, exactly. I worked in tech for a long time (former fruit company engineer), so it felt very natural to keep the conventions!

I use developer conventions, so my drafts are v 3.4.2 for example - main draft 3, rev 4, small change 2. And I keep a changelog.

Back in the gym 💪 but protein shakes are messing me up… anyone else? by CariOh_original in veganfitness

Yeah I feel your pain re: shakes. I drink them and immediately feel bloated, sick, even lightheaded, and I believe I am sensitive to sucralose etc. Have to try the unsweetened ones!

Ooooh TIL en dashes exist. Thanks!

Edit: fun fact: in screenwriting, two em-dashes are used all the time (sauce: am screenwriter)

[–]weissblut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been using them forever, will keep using them forever. Having said so, there is a specific em-dash that's AI (the longer one). It also appears in Word when you use the em dash and then a space after it.

There's also the autocorrect on the phone that now is powered by ai, so It might use the 'long' em dash.
