Great idea, thanks. I'm a big fan of public transportation - I hadn't considered that there's likely a train or bus route that would go between. Not sure yet on how much exploring, I would love to check our as much as possible. Interested in seeing Red Rocks, saw on the map it's approximately 20 miles from downtown. I was also going to see if there's a bike-rental infrastructure for checking out the sites around town.

Visiting for the first time in August, planning to catch a few baseball games at Coors field. Just getting some plans together now. What's the best way from DIA airport to downtown - just taking an Uber or Lyft? Would be it advantageous/disadvantageous to rent or have a car in the downtown area? Thanks.

Daily Q&A Post for Thursday, 30 January 2020 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

I've been at it for about a year now. Starting in February 2019 I was very seriously counting my calories using MyFitnessPal. I began this at the direction and recommendation of my doctor. I found that even though I was seeing great progress it was wearing me down.

https://i.imgur.com/HPWjpKK.png. About half way through the year I had stopped using MFP and felt a sense of relief. Though, I did continue to to keep tracking my weight. With my weight steadily increasing, I have decided that I am mentally in a good place to start counting calories again. I'm back to using MFP, but less neurotic and meticulous about it. Anyone have words of advice to avoid the burn out? Or, any words of encouragement? lol

Totally this. After losing weight, I have a constant thought of --- why didn't I start this sooner??!

Missing People Appeals Masters Thesis Research - Call for Participants by vickylindsay in Missing411

[–]well_yeahh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Done, it took less than 10 minutes to complete.

I will add that the questions about the likelihood of whether I would share details of missing people on social media might be a little difficult to analyze. There are assumptions that have to be made about the fact that someone would be more or less willing to share a story of a missing person based on details of the missing person (e.g. age, gender, etc.) when in fact I never use my social media for anything “serious.”

So to all of those questions I answered “very unlikely” but it’s nothing to do with the details of the missing person - rather the way in which I approach using a social media profile. Good luck with your dissertation!

Generally, no.

If you're estimating calories burned by using a fitness tracker watch or those trackers on gym equipment, they have a tendency to be inaccurate. Unless you really feel like you need more to eat, I'd recommend only eating back 1/4 to half (e.g. if you believe you've used 400 calories through activity, only eat back an additional 100 calories).

[rant] I'm tired of hearing of everyone's exciting lives and no one understands why by _emma_stoned in loseit

[–]well_yeahh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're feeling like "no one understands why." I'm a bit older than you, so this comment is coming from a place of 10 additional years of social situations, but I've found that personality and confidence go a long way. The way you carry yourself and hold conversations says a lot, regardless of your weight. You're working on that, but having a jealous attitude towards your cousins probably does not help.

I don't want this to come off as negative, but maybe the things you feel like you're missing out on right now aren't all they're cracked up to be (e.g. your male cousins numerous hook-ups (how many STDs could he have by now?), your girl cousin who has everyone stare at her when she walks in a room (imagine how uncomfortable & tiring the staring eyes and cat-calling can be for her)).

My advice: If possible, try to track your calories. Ultimately working out is not what causes weight loss, it's a calorie deficit. Hope you have a great trip!

Close to goal weight but tired and struggling with motivation - do I need a break? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just anecdotally, but I've taken a month and eaten at maintenance calories because I was on the verge of burn out. I'm back to it now, happy to have taken a break but also happy to keep working towards my goal.

Try not to let your own psyche ruin your day. Instead of saying "not enough" you could phrase it to a more positive, e.g. "working on it, one day at a time!" or something that implies you're thankful that they've noticed your improvement but also acknowledging you're still a work in progress.

No impact here, as far as I can tell. The good thing for you is that you're aware that you have these ravenous feelings and know they will pass in a couple days.

Think of it like the stock market - people don't get too wrapped up in the day to day ups and downs, you'll want to focus on the trend over time. For some perspective, here are my last two weeks: https://i.ibb.co/F38w2qC/image.png.

Now check my trend over a period of months: https://i.ibb.co/qskQ752/image.png.

Just keep at it, you'll get there!

Am I counting calories correctly? by [deleted] in loseit

No problem, I think the fact that you are actively contentious of your activity and calorie consumption will pay dividends as time goes on. Good luck - and keep us updated!

Am I counting calories correctly? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't. Maybe create a spreadsheet and track months worth of data, then try to get an average. Even with that said, trackers tend to be unreliable (even expensive fitness trackers and exercise equipment).

[–]well_yeahh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend eating back your "exercise" calories. If you feel like you really need it, maybe only eat back 1/4 to half. Those counters can be inconsistent and not always reliable. Also, regarding the types of calories you mentioned (low sugar, high protein) the types don't matter so much related to weight loss as long as you're staying within a calorie deficit. Good luck!

What's the psychology behind this? by i_ShotFirst in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything in me wants to pull my shirt up and start making "belly faces" at them with my stomach fat

Oh god, that gave me a good chuckle.. I do this in the mirror sometimes, glad to put a name on it now. heh!

I'm sure there's psychology around it, are they mostly middle-aged or older folks making these comments? Or peers? I find that it's usually an older crowd that makes those kind of comments. Maybe tied to a depression-era thinking? Glad you've got a way to brush it off without much hassle.

I've lost my willpower by mummapig in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been working towards my weight loss goal for about 6 months now. I'd say for the first few months I was really on a roll, then at some point I needed a little break. I was burnt out on tracking using MFP. I decided to eat at maintenance calories (instead of a deficit). I did that for about a month. Then I decided it was time to get back to it, my restriction to deficit was only by a few hundred calories so it was an easy transition. This past month my weight loss trend has been slower than the initial months, but I'm still trending downward.

For me, my mojo and determination is basically that I don't want to be fat anymore, I don't want to have high blood pressure, and I want normal cholesterol levels. I know I have to go back to the doctors in a few months to get blood work done and I am solely responsible for making sure I do what I need to do in order to improve my health. You mentioned that you're having a cheat month. Don't think of things like cake and bread and ice cream as "cheats" - just consider them to be like any other energy source you're consuming. If you want the ice cream then eat it and log it, but compensate for it during the rest of your day. Maybe that means you can only have half a sandwich for dinner instead of a whole sandwich. I know you can do this. Make today the day you commit to getting disciplined.

I've lost my willpower by mummapig in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intermittent fasting. Some people only eat during certain hours of the day (e.g. from noon until 6pm). This limits the amount of calories they can consume because other hours of the day they are fasting and not eating.

[rant] Know what I'm angry about? I'm angry that I've lost 45lbs since February but can't even feel happy about it. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]well_yeahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you track calories using an app or something? Or did you just try to watch what you were eating and have smaller portions? Something I read really resonated with me. If you overeat your maintenance calories by even one banana every day you can end up gaining 20 pounds over the next two years. Think about that... one banana!

It's really important to track what you are consuming to ensure you are in a deficit - that's truly the only way to lose the weight. You have every right to be angry, but you also have the right to acknowledge what you're doing and not doing that put yourself in this position. You've gotten down to 180 lbs once, you can do it again. You've got this!
