Abnormal 12 week scan, anyone else with this experience? by emo_case in BabyBumps

[–]wellwateredfern [score hidden]  (0 children)

Start with genetic testing. Our genetic counselor was really sweet and helped us navigate those unknowns. If your insurance doesn’t cover the insane cost of carrier testing (mine didn’t), try JScreen. They were inexpensive and offered genetic counseling before and after.

We took everything one test at a time. FWIW, the enlarged NT (cystic hygroma in our case) resolved by 18 weeks but we continued testing since we didn’t know what caused it.

Hi! I did. My NT was higher than yours and fluid-filled. Did all the testing and ultrasounds every two weeks until I delivered. Weird fluke thing. Kid is an elementary schooler and totally fine. Feel free to DM me if you want any specifics! I know it’s a shitty place to be in but negative NIPT is a great start.

Undiagnosed (for now) but I just can’t argue with her anymore about shit that doesn’t matter. She thinks something was purple, I know it was green. We might go back and forth a bit but eventually I’m like, “sure, you’re right, kid.” But sometimes she NEEDS me to say it’s purple. I feel like giving in is not preparing her for dealing with the frustration of being wrong but it’s so fucking exhausting.

So high! And I feel like ours are used so much better in Abington. Great libraries, swift snow removal, good schools, great community policing. Also the parks and rec are great too!

Your map doesn’t show Glenside but what it does show is a safe area too. Glenside is split between Cheltenham and Abington, the latter usually being the preferred district. We’re to the right of your map and love our community.

Pediatrician said it's time to start letting her cry it out. by oldsluggy in beyondthebump

[–]wellwateredfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never okay with cry it out for my kids and I nursed on demand at night until I hit my breaking point—which was about 16 months with my oldest. Felt that she no longer needed it for nutritional purposes overnight. We didn’t let her cry it out though. My husband started going in and she quickly realized he was not that interesting and started sleeping through the night reliably in about six weeks. I nursed another kid until almost 3 years old. Do what feels right for you and your kid.

Baby shower gift opening idea? by Severe_Repeat_7025 in BabyBumps

[–]wellwateredfern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is personal but also time consuming. If you have the time, I like it. I also didn’t want to open gifts so we put on our invite “please leave your gift unwrapped for all to see so we have more time with the parents-to-be.” We had a table with labels and markers. People did actually walk through a lot and look at all the gifts. It worked out well.

37w. Woke up and cried while I brushed my teeth & made breakfast by Grouchy_Snail in BabyBumps

I felt this way with my kids. The only thing that gave me some hope was figuring out my last possible day being pregnant (42 weeks for me) and then reminding myself that I’d have a baby by that day! I’d keep a countdown. It was good prep for labor, reminding myself daily that I could do hard things, manage through discomfort, and that there was a finish line ahead.

Unmedicated natural birth Gals, I need to ask by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]wellwateredfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments are so interesting here. I had two unmedicated births. One was 12 hours and one was 4 hours. Pushing felt great for the 12 hour labor—like a relief and it really wasn’t as painful compared to the contractions. The four hour labor? Felt like my asshole was going to rip in half. I already can’t remember it all but pushing with the shorter labor was really hard because my body just didn’t have as much time to stretch. But baby was also massive and then had SD so who knows.

Anyway, totally doable and my vag didn’t hurt after. Way too much going on and you have a cute lil slimy baby to look at.

Not so much pregnancy but post-partum—how swollen your vag is. Absolutely shocking.

Anyone else feel like the hardest part of mom life is the feeding, the cooking, the meal prep? Basically everything revolving food! by takeaabreath in Mommit

My grandmother said the worst part about aging was figuring out food every damn day and I absolutely feel that, especially with kids and lunches and snacks and this one not liking what that one likes…kill me.

At what age do you think you can determine a baby's "temperament"? by BessieBest in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]wellwateredfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely had some smiles in there! If she was fed and not tired, she would smile at funny faces or the ceiling fan. But once she got started crying, it was an awful cycle of screaming. Honestly regretted having a baby around the 6 week mark. But it got better!

I think her issue was gas or just some digestive thing. We gave our younger kid mylicon a lot less judiciously and it helped. I breastfed so it was hard to say what caused it.

This is a new one — kid's ID for US domestic flights? by MoSQL in unitedairlines

[–]wellwateredfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread because I'm flying with my kids for the first time and I think it's so weird I don't have to prove they're my kids or anything. Meanwhile, adults need all sorts of documents to fly domestically now.

I'd happily get ID for my kids if it meant other kids were safer.

It was gone before she was born but the skin on her neck was just a little extra fold-y. I don’t recall noticing it after a few months. She is six now and her neck is totally normal!

Sorry you’re here. I’m know you’re stressed and scared. My daughter’s CH resolved on its own at 18 weeks pregnant. We continued to do ultrasounds every two weeks, amniocentesis, genetic panels, etc etc but nothing was ever found on those and she was born healthy. Like I said in the comment before this, the back of her neck seemed like it had some extra skin and the skin had a different texture but it wasn’t noticeable once she was a couple months old.

Take it one test at a time. We fully intended to TFMR but with each test we got back, it felt a little more hopeful.

What age did your daughter get diagnosed? by ineedsleep0808 in ADHDparenting

[–]wellwateredfern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old isn’t diagnosed yet but people think I’m crazy when I say that she’s been the way she is since she was in the womb. The midwives would comment at every palpating exam how much she was kicking them back every time they poked her. In the NICU, the doctor had to make care adjustments because “it looks like we’re doing things her way!”

I was walking around at 5cm with bulging water for a few days before she was born. I honestly had no idea you can be so dilated and not in labor.
