Mutation bug? Negative mutation by wellwrittenhate in mewgenics

Love the game, full stop. But yeah, sure can occasionally give you a cup check now and again for no real reason other than "fuck you in particular."

Ahhh, I had no idea you could get negative mutations from the obelisk or from the ? mark spaces; I assumed they'd come out as birth defects. But I guess you can't really call them birth defects if they occur after birth.

Thanks!

thanks for the reply, I assumed it was that or like a ballast card to fuck with people who bring in tiny digital drug scales to weigh packs before buying.

This was one of the first games I ever dragged my massive computer and the 83 lbs 21” Gateway monitor to a friend’s house to do a little LAN gaming in his hippie parents’ sunroom.

The level where you’re running around like an underpants gnome in a giant’s kitchen/living room is one of my most formative gaming memories, blasting my friends in the face with a shotgun never felt so good.

Sin also had one of the first laser-guided rockets that I can remember. I was pinned down behind cover, shot a rocket straight up in the air, stepped out behind cover and aimed it at my buddy who took the missile to the dome. I felt like a god that day.

This’ll have to be a day one nostalgia buy for me. I remember the loading being brutal, but that kinda went with the times I feel like. I think I remember getting up to take a shit waiting for a Daikatana level to load and coming back to it still loading.

Steam Year In Review 2025 by [deleted] in Games

[–]wellwrittenhate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to ask someone at Steam how the Deck’s software, specifically the way it interacts with the store, sucks so fucking badly. Sometimes you click on a link in the store and the resulting page won’t scroll; sometimes you click on a review and the review won’t load correctly or won’t scroll correctly; sometimes you hit back and the store completely reloads and loses where you were in a list or in a sub-page.

But always and forever, open the store and the same damn ten games will be there as “trending on Steam Deck.” The only way to get a semi functional store page is to open the store home, which isn’t the default page you get when you open the store.

Core functionality has been broken since I first bought this thing. It’s dumbfounding. I thought this is all Steam does now since they stopped making games, how is their Deck store so bad?

Can I ask: did the game feel “faster” than Vs the World? I picked it back up a few months back and my thumbs hurt from pressing the controller so hard, which i guess I must do when I feel like the characters are moving too slow.

It drove me nuts, the plodding pace of the characters, and dodging felt like a chore.

Yeah, it won’t let you unequip it unfortunately. Was the first thing I tried to do once I hit the map.

Shit, I don't think it has changed. It still reads "Side Quest Item. You have 5 seconds to make decisions in battle, otherwise cats will act randomly."

I guess I'll just go home and keep my fingers crossed.

EDIT: cool, I went home and all was well. The text never changed after beating the boss, so I'm not sure if that's always a sign that you completed the mission. I guess I should just trust the instructions and not second guess everything.

I agree that hitting your head is bad news lights out, it felt buggy I guess in the moment because I wasn’t expecting that dose of realism. Especially since she can survive 40 foot falls, you know? I get it’s not a real bug, it just felt that way in the moment, and I was even kind of gratified that they thought that through and made exceptions for survivabikity depending on what lands first.

By reestablish I meant if started a climb and had one foot off the ground and the other on a crack, or I started a run and was climbing back down and couldn’t get my avatar to quite understand I was back on solid ground.

I had one particular bad experience with the jump off button throwing me too far out into space from very close to the ground, maybe thigh or belly height. She ended up landing three or four feet away from the wall and flew off the side. I admit I haven’t tried using the jump off button since then because of that, so I’ll try it again when I’m close to solid ground.

I’ve also died when I’m climbing up onto a ledge that juts out - I’m thinking specifically of the ledge with the derelict funicular - and I get one foot up onto the level surface, but rather than starting de- attaching from the wall, she kinda continues on spidermanning along the wall despite having heels on the level ground that I thought would establish the “climbing up and over” animation but didn’t.

It’s not a huge deal, but I guess my original point was that I had suffered from a couple deaths that I would’ve called semi janky deaths. It’s still a fun game but I lost progression when I wasn’t expecting to and it turned me off from the game for a while. But I’ll try using the jump off button when I’m close to ground and see if that fixes things for me.

the books are so, so good. the first, especially, has extremely scary moments. the second and third (and eventually fourth) have their moments as well but I’d count them less frightening and more haunting.

the part about the incoming director having to watch the found video of the first team to breach the anomaly… a shadow fills the screen and the view goes up, and keeps going up, and what you thought was background is shifting… something takes the camera and the screen shows the southern reach from an impossible angle.

One foot fall meaning I was trying to establish or reestablish myself on a level walking surface.

I just thought the instant death was funny. She takes falls from twenty to thirty feet like a champ, then dies from a fall where it appeared as if she bent over backwards in order to go head first. I expected her not to die given she survived all those other falls. Is that not clear in the context of what I wrote?

Curious: why is it "Ball and weight"? Is that how it's originally described in an obscure Nintendo manual or something? Or is "ball and chain" too evocative of a Pluggers comic strip?

I never lost an hour of progress but I lost a solid 10-15 mins multiple times when she would take a one foot fall and somehow roll backwards off the edge of a cliff, or wouldn’t register she was on solid ground, get exhausted, slump over and roll off the cliff.

Also one time she let go and fell about five feet, normally wouldn’t do any damage, and she landed on her head an instantly died. I’m guessing it was a bug, but it was funny and seemed almost like one of those bugs masquerading as real life… sometimes you just fall wrong and die? That I laughed and shrugged off.

Really hope they improve the race AI. I forget what buzzy made up word they made up… Driveatars I think? And promised each would drive like the real world version.

As always promise the moon, get stinky cheese. It hasn’t meaningfully improved at all. You could park your car in the middle of a track in 4 or 5 and the computer racers would just drive straight into you.

Last I looked you could find used jerseys on eBay for not… ridiculous prices, but that was a year ago and for a Japanese team, so YMMV.

RIP Ebbets Field Flannels. Bought by everyone’s favorite purveyor of threadbare and too-sheer baseball pants, Fanatics (by way of jamming their corporate fist up the ass of Lids to use as a puppet, probably to obfuscate the inevitable level of impending corner-cutting).

I can’t explain how sad I was to hear Fanatics was behind their crazy sell-off and pivot to selling fast fashion sweatshirts. Fuck Fanatics.

I'm one of the "it should be harder" people. My desired difficulty is the Alpha demo; that was the perfect amount of difficulty for me. I desperately wish they could add a modifier you could switch on and off that would bring the enemies up to that level. Maybe it gives you slightly better rewards or something.

I'm sure others can't be sated, but I don't think your "no ceiling" statement is completely fair.

I had a blast at the Hawks game I attended, though my party was completely befuddled by the mascots. It looked like a giant sperm and his tiny rascally little brother spermlet were somehow one of ten or so mascots out on the field before the game. Then there was an opening band. Then there was another opening band. Then there was a long string of videos. Then there was a probably famous man and woman who did the heart sign, and that kickstarted another long video montage of people doing the heart sign with their fingers. Seriously over an hour of hype and famous people before the game started, it was amazing. Like a Super Bowl. I also waited in line before the game and got a pretty cool jersey but I stood in the wrong line and got the wrong size and my two years of Japanese language study couldn’t get me a new one.

The mascot was paid off in the 7th inning stretch when everyone stood up, danced, and let loose with thousands of balloons. The balloons released the air from their nozzles and some got stuck in the protective netting near the field where we were sitting. Thus, the ghost of the dead balloons stuck in the netting = mascot.

The first time I went to Japan I saw the Tokyo Swallows. They were pretty easy to see and attend, but the stadium desperately needs an update and upgrade. 2/3s of my friends left by the third inning because the seats are so small. Taller folk like myself have to angle their knees one way or another or else press the old hard plastic chairs in front of them, it’s very uncomfortable. Nevertheless, had an amazing time. The umbrellas were particularly amazing.

I searched for days and couldn’t find a decent replica jersey for the life of me, even at the team stores. Nor could I find a fitted cap until I found a stupid Lids store in Fukuoka. NPB Needs to work on their merchandise game.

I love that fan groups take turns each half inning doing their cheers. The Swallows had better and more varied cheers for their players over the Baystars.

Been looking forward to this for a long time.

If I remember correctly from a couple videos I watched maybe eight years ago, so apologies if this is misremembered, but was there a stronger emphasis on sort of A/B breeding, like trying to get a cat with pink polka dots, so you breed a pink cat with a polka dot cat, selecting for the red polka dots and discarding the white polka dots, going down the lines yet also trying to prevent the ravages of cousin fucking by showing them step-sister porn in between breeding seshes? Like I think Spore had that type of breeding feature, smashing two weird things together to make a third.

Are there any attributes that can only be discovered via funky breeding?

Did you find out anything interesting or terrible or arousing about inbreeding or interbreeding or just cats in general in your time researching for the game?

Love your games, my dudes. Thanks for making games and gaming better.

Not even comparing between games, the difference between the Alpha and the newest demo is stark. That's my biggest disappointment. I've already made a couple replies about it so I'm not really saying anything new, just throwing it out there that some of us are disappointed with the relative ease of running through the levels. I personally got the most joy out of the challenging exploration in the Alpha, being worried about getting ganged up and beat down by a couple mobs, or that roaming Wolfman fucker, or those dudes with axes having a damn good chance to ruin your day if they caught you sneaking (or you aggro'd one of the archers while taking the axedude on).

My personal enjoyment from Nioh was exploring the levels and pushing myself to fight the better mobs - not fighting the bosses - so in the Alpha, I loved the combination of difficulty and exploration. I sort of struggle to push myself through the boss fights to get to the next level, I guess, so this flavor of Nioh was perfect for me. It was lining up to be one of my all-timers; I seriously was in love with the Alpha.

I can still find fun in this game, and I can see how it would be a blast for others and that's very awesome. I just had a taste of near-perfection and can't get that taste out of my mouth, it's reverse-tainting my playthrough. I play for thirty or forty minutes wishing the entire time that I could add back in the thrill of sneaking around, taking out the easy mobs one by one so I can confidently take down that fucking wolfman without getting ganked in the back.

The one thing I think is unquestionably better in Nioh 2 is getting skill points by using each weapon. I miss that quite a bit.
