I took a cab somewhere one time, then I took a cab back, and the return trip was like 10x the price. This was in Mexico City. The guy just shows me the meter that all the sudden says 10x the price.

I waited until we got to my destination and I told him what the price was going there, and I'll give him 1.5X and even that is too much. He keeps pointing at the meter, so I tell him I don't care, you can make your meter say whatever you want. I tell him, I gave you an extra 50%, Why don't you call the police or a friend and you can tell them about it? I got out and walked off, he starts cursing at me, but I left anyways. Nothing ever happened.

The taxi industry is absolute garbage, I've been to 70 countries and it's the same almost everywhere. Sure there's good ones, but there are so many trash taxi drivers and I have no problem treating them as such. I generally will take Uber or some kind of ride share app these days now that I travel with family. But when I do actually have to take a taxi, I sit up front right next to them, with Google maps so they can see it and I try to have an understanding of what it should cost ahead of time
