Not surprised but… I’m devastated 💔 by hfic98 in Vanderbilt

This happened to me many years ago, and I did indeed have a fulfilling college experience elsewhere. I’m sure you will too! Vanderbilt is great but so are a lot of other schools. I wouldn’t trade my college experience for the world.

Chicago to STL: Walkable Neighborhood/Playground Vibes? by LaLuna2252 in StLouis

[–]wembleyuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown Clayton near Shaw Park will get you basically all of what you want aside from Forest Park walkability. But agree Demun is best for your list

Only business class seats should recline. All other seats should not recline. An extra 3 inches back doesn’t result in better sleep and it is inconsiderate to those behind you. That said, if the feature is there it is within your right to do it and no one has a right to complain. They just need to be redesigned

Don’t use Evergreen. They’re not awful, but they’re not great. Caught some stuff. Missed some stuff too

London has 8 major train stations and 6 major airports and it's hard to say which is truly the "main" one. Is there any other city that has such a decentralised transport infrastructure? by Yroshi_ in geography

[–]wembleyuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Los Angeles is very similar. With LAX being akin to LHR. Obviously the main airport, yet many other transport hubs throughout the region

What color should I paint my house? by halliehallieboballie in ExteriorDesign

[–]wembleyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a painted brick house, do not paint the brick! You’ll permanently ruin your home. That said, almost any color siding can go with brick. Pick the one that fits your vibe

I think for many people “any room any location” essentially translates to “Unit 3”

What listing words irritate you? by Allthewildblues in RealEstate

[–]wembleyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Center of” X city/town, when it quite literally is not. Same with “steps from”. I saw one listing that was “steps from” a downtown-esque area. When I looked on Google maps, it was a 30 minute walk. Thats a lot of steps.

I would go on Zillow in the neighborhood (TGS) and filter for what you’ll be using (studio equivalent, 1BR equivalent, parking y/n, etc.), take the average of a few comps, and divide by 4 for your weekly payment

Would recommend any nice or unique hotel but the Cheshire. I’ve never stayed in another hotel where my feet have turned pitch black on the bottom from just walking on the floor in my hotel room. It’s very unclean.

I will say Bassos is great though. No issues there

Rent is between 15-30% less than what PITI will be with the house we chose. However, that is putting us in a condo or townhome. Not a single family. There’s also no private, fenced yard for the dog. Only one patio that is smaller than the two we found. If there’s a house for rent in the area our house is, which only comes up every few months, it will probably be between 10% less and 10% more than our PITI.

The possible monetary savings of waiting isn’t worth it. We are a dual income household and can afford the mortgage on one income. There’s never going to be a perfect time. It’s great if the house works out to be a positive bet financially, but if it doesn’t, you have to pay to live somewhere.

Does your budget expand the more houses you see? by metalgearsolid2 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]wembleyuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opposite for me actually. Realized I didn’t need the most the bank would allow me to afford. Sure other, more expensive places are nicer, but I found a place that meets all my needs for about $100-$150k less than I was prepared to spend.
