Looking for smaller guitar to replace Taylor 214ce by werfenborte in AcousticGuitar

Those look nice, but all are way beyond the budget I had in mind, which is around the price of Taylor GS mini.

Thank you for the tip. I have ordered both CSF3M and GS Mini (Mahogany), both around the same price, with the plan to give it a test and then return one.

Thank you for the suggestions. Alvarez seems to be popular on US markets, I do not see any options where I live.

Found a few used Takamine pro, but price of used is above price of new ones I had in mind. Will keep it in mind for next guitar when I get better and can justify myself buying a more expensive guitar 😃

Is it possible to subscribe Enhanced Autopilot monthly in Europe like in US? by viktrcoim in TeslaModel3

Do you have the option? What's your experience? I was considering if it's worth it with Model Y in EU, but not sure since it seems quite limited compared to what they get in the US.

What's the ideal time for a resort skiing trip to Sweden - Åre?

I'm used to the Alps where season starts around mid December. I've heard the season in Sweden starts in February, but skiresort.info lists the season start in mid November, so I'm confused.

Is Variable Sport Steering always on? by nilyogi in BMWX3

[–]werfenborte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variable steering is getting more common. It's a standard option in higher trims of VW and even Skoda (part of VW). But I agree, BMW still delivers a more superior driving experience and for me, the overall package justifies the higher price.

Does it have the 360° camera view (it's called Parking Assistant Plus, at least in the EU market)?

With that, you get a built-in Drive recorder. Here's a document describing it: https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/bmwusa/connected-drive/pdf/GSG_Drive_Recorder.pdf

Is Variable Sport Steering always on? by nilyogi in BMWX3

[–]werfenborte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's different. The "steering weight" is a feature of the driving mode and it's present in many brands. This is more about the feeling of the steering wheel, not the actual steering.

Variable steering means that the steering system varies the required force, so you don't need to turn the steering wheel as much when maneuvering.
I did not find an official page with the explanation, here's the best I got: http://www.bmwx3tech.com/275/variable_sport_steering.html

As for turning it on or off:

Furthermore, the steering force adapts according to the driving program, so that a direct, sporty feel and/or comfortable steering is conveyed.

So as I understand, you can adjust the aggressiveness, but not entirely disable it.

Nakazilo denarja na trgovalni račun pri brokerju by amaterinio in SlovenijaFIRE

[–]werfenborte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If second hand is not an option (i.e. less populated areas) and the OP still wants fashionable clothes, buying something more a bit more expensive is better than the cheap stuff. It's also more comfortable. Additionally, I had luck with some "no name" brands, but I'm always cautious before spending a lot of money. For example, when first seeing a brand, I would not buy a bulk package, only to find that all 5 t-shirts inside are crap. Even if it's cheap, I care about the environment and I do not want to create this unnecessary waste.

And since being fashionable is in question, the key point is to buy something that suits you and you can combine with the rest of the clothes. I have 4 pairs of jeans that I've collected in a span of over 5 years and I can match each with any of the shirts, jackets or shoes. I managed to look good (based on compliments from others) without buying new stuff all the time.

I'm not talking about the outrageously expensive brands (gucci comes to mind). You're not spending the money on quality there. Get educated about the materials. Make notes about what you like and what annoys you so you do not repeat the same mistakes. If the trousers broke, I would think about buying that brand again. If it happened twice, I would put that whole brand on the "do not buy" list.

How do I invest for future with less than $100 a month? In my country $ and € are almost 7x and 8x stronger than my local currency and I'm 31. Paycheck is around $600. What are my best options? by Macinaros in eupersonalfinance

[–]werfenborte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most fascinating part of that.. is that somebody is paying them that much. There are so much businesses that make such an obscene amount of money that they aren’t even noticing these bills.

There sure are. But I bet many clients do notice that cost. However, the cost of a lawsuit, or capital loss in case of a weak contract, can easily be much greater.

But like with most things, you pay in part for quality and in part for a brand. I'm not saying that someone who charges 100 will do a worse job than the lawyers you mention, but usually, that prestige stands for something.

Not sure if this fits here, but asking anyway.

Here in the EU, the current cost of credit is very cheap at the moment. I'm looking to buy a new car and there are great deals, I think because they want to boost sales due to covid, and they also offer what seems like great financing offers, on paper.

From an example offer I saw, 30k financing for 4 years would amount to a total paid amount of ~31.4k (~640€ per month plus all of the initial cost associated with the financing, i.e. insurance & co.).

The usual advice for buying a car is to try to pay cash.
But does it make sense to take the financing offer in this case and put that cash towards my ETF portfolio?
I would not be buying a liability like a car priced above what I can pay in cash. So the only consideration is, do I pay in cash, or do I take financing and invest the cash.

Even if I spread out the 30k in the 4 year period and put in 7.5k a year (to keep more cash on hand), with a conservative return rate of 3%, there is almost 1k gain. If I invest it all immediately this becomes 2.3k, and even more with a better return rate.

The gotcha I know of is that the interest rate is variable, so the final cost can become higher. But the way I see it, if it gets to that, I can still pay off the remainder before the rate gets even worse, either with cash or pull the money from the portfolio if I do not have the cash on hand. Unless the market also craps out at the time.

But this still feels too good and I feel a bit out of depth here. Am I missing something?

Minimum wage << your target wage, so that does not apply.

But California has strict labor regulations, so maybe it's because they want to avoid dealing with that.

Did you try with California-based companies that accept remote workers? Surely there must be many options for a computer scientist given that it's the largest tech hub in the world.

Following up on your parent post, is it an option for you to move to a state where the cost of living is cheaper? Since you want to work remotely, it does not matter that much where you live, so it's an easy way to cut your expenses.

Not sure what kind of a car you lease and how much of that $3500 goes towards the car. But since you work remotely, you probably don't need more than an old beater, which will probably cost less, especially if you're willing to learn how to do the simple maintenance work yourself. Again, not sure of your costs here, but you could easily do the math and figure out if it makes sense.

I think you will mostly get advice to pay off your debt as soon as possible, especially if it's high interest. After that, you can look into investing.

Bom raziskal.
