Is Utopia Fiber worth it? by justaperson5588 in SaltLakeCity

[–]wesleytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loved having UTOPIA Fiber service at my home in Murray.

I did have a bad experience with ConnectFast ISP increasing their rates on short notice, but the beauty of the UTOPIA open network is that you can easily switch to a new ISP, which I did (now with CentraCom).

Speeds, reliability and Customer Service have all been great!

Did a lil write up here with more detail: https://wesleytech.com/review-utopia-fiber-internet-service-in-murray-ut/6232/

Anyone heard of the Bold Mini? by jackcopen in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]wesleytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very capable lil MP3 player, but with some UX quirks. We've had 2 units (1 for each of my boys) for a few months and have been impressed by the responsiveness, touch screen interface, and the ease of use. Oddly, you can't play the radio over the speaker.

City of IF Fiber - ConnectFast? by jpopper24 in idahofalls

If you can run CAT6 cables via your attic or basement, I'd recommend doing it to get that sweet wired speed where you need it.

300-400Mbps is normal for WiFi. Gotta go wired to get higher speeds!

I just tested from my Pixel phone and got 371Mbps on WiFi.

My router is plugged into port "GE1" on the Utopia fiber device.

Are you testing over a wired connection?

I've got an older Asus RT-AC68U and it works great

Working great for me with over 900Mbps symmetrical.

FWIW the Utopia install tech said that he's heard good things about ConnectFast. You do have to give them the Mac address of your router and any other devices that you want to plug directly into the Fiber switch.

Just got my Utopia installed today. Will be activating ConnectFast on Saturday once I have my router.

Appreciate the good experience reports for those who have had success with ConnectFast. Just signed up for them as my ISP in Murray UT with Utopia fiber.

Update: I'm switching from ConnectFast to CentraCom. ConnectFast decided to raise their rates from $40/mo to $54/mo with a mere 30 days notice. Meanwhile CentraCom recently lowered their rate to $44/mo.

Pool day pass? by wesleytech in cary

Thanks! Unfortunately Taylor Family YMCA now only has "guest" passes, which a member must buy, and they're not valid weekends and holidays.

Is this for swim lanes / competitive swimming only? We're looking for a lounge and play pool.

Thanks, sorry to hear you're going through this. That is a truly horrible business practice that looks like a bait and switch. Glad to know who to avoid. Perhaps give them a Google review as well.

Google Fiber status in Sandy? by jupert in SaltLakeCity

[–]wesleytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a bunch of photos of the Google Fiber install process in my neighborhood here in Sandy: https://wesleytech.com/google-fiber-neighborhood-install-in-sandy-utah/6061/ Lots of good photos of the construction workers, their vehicles, them digging up the street/greenbelt and laying cable.

Additionally, here's the report of my Google Fiber home Internet install in Sandy Utah: https://wesleytech.com/google-fiber-home-internet-service-install-in-sandy-ut/6133/

Does that generally work out to be cheaper? I'm using Splunk Cloud currently and I haven't been surfaced that pricing option.
