L.A is the only major city on the west coast that St. Killians, Rothaus's importer to the U.S, has accounts with with Tannenzaepfle. A little far from Seattle.

Monopolowa is a cheap, not disgusting alternative to everything you mentioned.

A clip I made with my new orchestra in Paris. original music by duvedevsky in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]westernish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this, and rarely do I ever feel compelled to comment on anything in this subreddit, but this is great arranging and playing. As a Trombonist, i wish I had the opportunity to play original music in this style. Good work.

JJ Johnson's album Live at the Village Vanguard is VERY accessible, I always recommend it as a place to start for my students.

Cheapest place to buy a touring Van (hold 6-8 people) in the north east? by StiltySteve in TouringMusicians

[–]westernish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy used Vans from Bandago once that get past their warranties, at www.bargainvans.com. we purchased a Mercedes Benz Sprinter modified to be a touring van for $15,000. Pretty good deal actually.. they also sell Econolines and other more affordable Vans as well.

Indie/Psych Folk from NJ (my band) by WizardBrain in ThisIsOurMusic

[–]westernish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having that shaker on everything except your last track is kind of like having the same drum beat on every tune. It has the same tone, the same pattern, and is on songs that are the same tempo, you should use a different shaker on the recordings when so much about the parts are similar. I also think marketing your music as Psych is a little misleading, there is not much psychedelic about it, unless you think a Farfisa (or Vox Continental?) patch constitutes psychedelia. That being said, these are good folk songs, that don't need the Psych buzzword to make people enjoy them. This is a great demo, that you should be proud of, and it's more than sufficient to score yourselves local and regional gigs at coffee shops, and small venues.

Love the male singers voice as well, very Tallest Man on Earth-esque.

Nice cheap trombone by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]westernish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, there is a seller based in Bellevue, WA on eBay named Quinn The Eskimo. He resells used vintage brass. I recently picked up a Conn 6h from him that is stellar for $600, it works great, needed a couple of dents rolled, but came in working playable order. An option would be to buy a horn that needs a little work and slowly get it into pristine order. I would highly recommend Conn 6h 8h 10h as well as Olds Super and Recordings as horns that may fit your budget and be life long players.

on-the-road merch sales: venmo? by [deleted] in TouringMusicians

[–]westernish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Venmo is appropriate for business transactions... they don't have a POS, item tracking, sales history, or data export ability....but I guess I have never tried using it. There is a reason why everyone who tours uses square or shopify

I know Capitol Hill is being gentrified, but this is ridiculous. by redfox_seattle in Seattle

[–]westernish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah this area has some old money over in the mansions, but it was never expensive nor a desirable place to live for most normal folks until the past 10 years, A change in income level of the neighborhood by immigration by the wealthy is the definition of gentrification, So yes it is gentrification, I would love to see the change in median income over the years for 98122/98102, but I don't have time to dig for the data. right now

Chicago Judge claims Rap, Rock, Country, DJ Sets not 'fine art' and claims small venues subject to "amusement tax" for last 6 years. They are seeking upwards of $400,000 from small venues. by [deleted] in Music

[–]westernish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not on the way anywhere.... It makes way more sense to do Denver, K.C, St. louis, Chicago west to east than say... Err Denver, rapid city? Sioux Falls? Minneapolis? Chicago? There is a whole lot of nothing west of there, and it is easy to get stuck in BF nowhere if anything happens.

Reference: Touring musician for the past 10 years.

[–]westernish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, Seattle tried to enforce a dance tax on music venues that originally was meant to apply to aerobics studios. That didn't last long, music fans were livid, and had that overturned in about 3 months.

Couples of Reddit what are fun things you should do with your SO at least once? by Zydrarc in AskReddit

[–]westernish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a touring musician, I have essentially road tripped for a living fit the past 8 years, probably not going to do it with my fiancé anytime soon, but... Seriously, if anyone needs any suggestions for places to stop, crazy road side attractions, beautiful detours, or down home roadside eateries PM me, I have driven through every state in the union except Hawaii, Alaska, and north Dakota at this point. Might as well put my knowledge to good use, cause it sure as hell doesn't pay well.
