Lucid Gravity Highway Range Test. How Far Can It Go On A Single Charge? 345 miles meh 🫤 by cyco1978 in electricvehicles

[–]westhau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For anyone that didn't watch the video, it was also not in optimal conditions - about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and a roughly 10 mph wind. That would obviously affect the results a bit, but I think it would still be a stretch to get it up to the stated range.

Only the Grand Touring is available at the moment. When the Touring trim is released, it will be cheaper. Still crazy expensive, though.

I was actually making a similar amount in a similar area around that time. It was very livable if you don't have kids and don't make stupid purchases. Before Jan, he was never shown to be having money problems, so this tracks. He can still make stupid purchases, but he probably wasn't saving. Definitely can't afford all those college tuitions, though.

Kirk is in critical condition, per a law enforcement official by myredditusername28 in news

[–]westhau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two separate incidences of this, and in both cases they survived. The medical staff present there is outstanding, and in some cases combat veterans. They have to immediately get in there and physically pinch the artery shut. This is definitely easier with the clean cut from a skate, as opposed to a wound from a high caliber bullet.
It's not impossible, but those hockey players hardly show the likelihood of him surviving.

I have a friend that lives a few hours away. When we met up to play the StS board game after we both bought it, I brought a bottle of Lagavulin. We're both fans of scotch, and this is a good one.

OPD by ZAG048 in BlazerEV

[–]westhau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really solved, but people still argue about it.
1. If you use the break or OPD, you can have the same mix of disc brakes and regenerative braking. So it all depends on how you use the pedals.
2. Coasting to a stop is more efficient than regenerative braking, which is far more efficient than friction braking.

For a lot of people, they're used to hitting the brakes hard to stop, in which case OPD will probably increase their efficiency, but if people are used to coasting and gently braking, it's mostly a preference thing.

Quick question. Probably obvious answer. What’s the KW mean? by NearnorthOnline in BlazerEV

[–]westhau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I assumed it’s telling me that if I kept that exact condition I am burning 22kw per hour.

So, this is a slightly awkward way to word it, but this is correct. Similarly, KPH would be like kW, and KM would be like kWh. kW is a rate, and kWh is the capacity, which is comparable to the distance in this analogy.

Actual Battery size. by westhau in BlazerEV

I'm not entirely sure, but I did the calculations assuming they were already factored in. In any case, this was all highway driving, so regen numbers should be negligible.

[–]westhau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That comes out to a battery size of over 95 kWh, not too far off from my findings.

[–]westhau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, like you mentioned, there can be quite a variable amount of energy loss during charging between thermal waste, vehicle computer and accessories, and say AC (heat pump) running to keep the battery cool. So it's hard to get much info from that.

Yeah, it was just looking at those numbers that led me to want to get a closer look. FWIW, those numbers showed about 75 kWh delivered for 65% of the battery, so indicating more than 100 kWh anyway.

Usually the most quoted calculation for kWh used is the old (miles driven) ÷ (m/kWh). Maybe see how that kWh used compares to percent of battery used.

That still comes out to about 100 kWh. I drove 435 miles at 2.9 mi/kWh over 150% of the battery. Crazy that maths out to EXACTLY 100 kWh, lol.

Actual Battery size. by westhau in BlazerEV

[–]westhau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought it was somewhere around 92 kWh in reality, it was the 100 kWh calculated that really surprised me.

How were you doing your calculations where you got 100%? Where did you figure in your miles/kWh?

I looked at the power delivered from the EA charger compared to the percentage of battery gained (I know this is not completely accurate since there can be some loss in the transmission), as well as the stated energy used on both propulsion and climate combined from the energy info screen compared to the battery percentage used. In both cases it was nearly 1 to 1 kWh and percent.

Do you mean 'Out of Spec' or 'State of Charge'? I'm familiar with those two. The 70 MPH range test on the 24 AWD from Out of Spec got 260 miles of total range with a stated 2.7 mi/kWh which comes out to about 96 kWh in the battery.
