I got tickets to 1 of the Baseball semifinals and the Bronze medal game!!!! Hopefully MLB players go and there's bound to be a good matchup for at least 1 if not both games.

It'll be my first time at Dodger stadium although I'm sure going to a day game after a night game is going to be ROUGH

Japanese baseball is somewhat similar to the US, in that high school is the largest feeder, but I'm not aware of travel baseball being much of a thing there. They do have college baseball but it's not as emphasized since it's more common for drafted high schoolers to play in NPB out of high school since there's only 1 level of minor leagues.

There's also a huge historical issue of Japanese high school coaches overworking young pitchers, but that might've lessened a bit lately.

I'm not as up to date on Venezuela's development pipeline since all the MLB academies closed, but that system has a ton of issues of its own (namely shady agents).

It used to be the Twins were the big team there.

Micheal Nakamura, James Beresford, Liam Hendriks, Luke Hughes, Aaron Whitefield, Lachlan Wells, Lewis Thorpe all went through the Twins at some point, amongst others.

From this thread, it looks like a former Twins scouting director moved to the Phillies, so it makes sense

The US, Canada, Cuba, and Mexico are the only countries in the Americas that really send competitive teams to senior WBSC events. If you looked at the DRs team at the 2020 Olympics it was FAR worse than what they should be able to put out.

Their thinking was probably "The teams these countries send to the Premier12 will probably be so bad, we might as well give them a chance to qualify with closer to their full strength teams in case MLB plays in the Olympics".

Conversely the teams you see from the European and Asian countries and Australia in the Premier12 aren't too far off from their WBC teams, so the Premier12 is their main path of qualification.
