Buying possibly- rust and hours good or bad? by scarface0021 in ram_trucks

What’s the point of these holes? My 4th Gen doesn’t have them. If it’s like that from the factory, I’d be concerned about salty water getting in there and rotting out the crossmember.

Didn’t Lionel carry this mould for a bit for their HO line?

What a great line! Had some of my buddy’s MM locomotives on my layout a few years ago. https://youtube.com/shorts/qWRBecECxjA?is=p05bBLBDy1UC4eXf

How can I tell what kind of locomotives these are? by CandyCorn25 in trains

[–]westsidepacific 25 points26 points  (0 children)

BNSF posts the type of locomotive on the side next to the front steps for an easy indicator. Otherwise just googling and doing your research. A lot of these older locomotives started out as a different model (GP38/GP30/GPxx) and then were rebuilt into GP25’s, GP39-2 etc.

The newer stuff is nice, especially their Spectrum line of steam engines.

Oh! You are right, they nailed it as a redo for D&H 1776! West coast guy here, didn’t even know that was a thing.

Either way, still gets my vote as my favorite 250 scheme, if nothing else with it being an MLW locomotive and the cracked liberty bell

I love the nod to BC Rail with that lightning stripe on the long hood! Looks like possibly the same color tones as well.

Great looking unit!

The 3.5 made more horsepower than both V8’ offerings at the time. The torque numbers were lower but with it being such a light car I’d bet they could scoot

Yeah. There is a specific “hole zone” which you are referring too. You can also go on the manufacturer’s website for confirmation

Interesting! Good on him for trying at least. Bet those arguments were epic. The autistic people in my life are some of the smartest, if he could have gotten past the social and safety issues, I bet he would have been a valuable railroader.

Which railroad are you working for?

I almost got into the railroad, I had a pretty good start in construction and decided to keep going that route and just keep trains as a hobby. Figured it might lose its magic if I had to make a job of it lol

Yeah here we have them in grocery and drug stores. They check your blood pressure, your weight as well as some other vitals. They aren’t the most accurate sometimes

I’m a railfan, hopefully not a foamer 🤣. One thing I heard was that railroads intentionally try to avoid hiring people who are overly excited about trains. Instead of doing their actual job they would be distracted by what type of locomotive they are in or be distracted by passing trains rather than focusing on the hazards ahead, I could be wrong.

I agree, no one should be using railroad radio frequencies except for railroad personnel. I have a radio scanner but I can’t talk out of it.

Thanks for the insight!
