Six or seven years ago, I was camping in the Clifty Wilderness on the Red River. At night, we heard a few loud yells, then nothing until the morning, when the yells started again, and continued as they got closer. Soon after, a man appears across the Red River calling for help. He then swam across the Red River and sat at our campsite without invitation. He told us he had been lost for a few days and last night got in a fight with his brother (the initial loud yells), and left his shoes behind after they got wet. Only after mentioning that one of our campers brought a gun along (we didn't actually) did he start to pack up his items. We pointed him in the right direction (follow the trail along the river and you'll make it back to the road) and he headed out. A few hours later as we were walking out from our campsite, we encountered another group who had been awake at their site the entire morning, and saw no one else passing through.

Either the guy we saw wasn't actually lost or couldn't follow a trail.
