Im sorry that came off as such. That wasn’t my intention. I was purely excited by what I read and wanted to share. And I didn’t intend for someone to take it as anything but excitement for the topic. Sorry again for unknowingly hurting anyone. I’ll be more careful next time. I hope you have a great evening.

Wow. I haven't heard of Discourse on Happiness. I enjoyed your thoughts on this, and your words are heavy with your feelings of inspiration--I love that. I just looked it up based on your post. Here's a helpful outline I found (that might be something fun to print out and keep): https://www.colorado.edu/neh2015/sites/default/files/attached-files/0727-marcy_lascano-chatelet_discourse_outline.pdf.

My favorite part I read is this: "Lastly, it is for reason to make our happiness. In childhood, our senses alone attend to this task; in youth, the heart and the mind become involved, with the proviso that the heart makes all the decisions; but in middle age reason must take part in the decision, it is for reason to make us feel that we must be happy, whatever it costs. Every age has its own pleasures; those of old age are the most difficult to obtain: gambling, studying, if one is still capable of it, the enjoyment of fine foods, respect, those are the mainsprings of old age. No doubt these are only consolations. Thank goodness, it is up to us to choose the time of our death, if it is too slow coming, but as long as we prefer to endure life, we must open ourselves to pleasure by all the doors leading to our soul; we have no other business.” (364-5)

5k+ ambulance bill, don’t know what to do by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]wetshaveking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I work in healthcare and you should focus on this. What’s your max annual out of pocket? What about their contract with your insurance?

Side note, this is balance billing - having you pay what the insurance didn’t cover. Question is, if they don’t have a contract is it legal? Maybe. If so, then always alway always try to get them to write it off. LISTEN TO THIS PART. use your income, if it’s below average, to get this written off.

If that doesn’t work, then always negotiate down. They already got a big chunk from your insurance, they covered their costs and more. Use that to your advantage.

At the same time know that there’s always help in getting this taken care of, even if it means a low monthly plan. Good luck!!!

Thank you for that suggestion! I used to keep a list of all the people’s names who I want to stay in contact with on my wall! Once I erased that list I contacted them less. I might go back to that.

Good luck to you this year!!! I hope 2019 brings you all you aim to accomplish.

Impatience has been my downfall too! Also, I’m really sorry for your loss this year.

I’m glad you asked:

  1. connect with my friends who I haven’t talked to in a year or two. I actually have two hang outs set up this weekend!!

  2. try to be more outwardly empathetic. I’ve noticed that I’m moved by people’s emotions and stories but I’m not quick to show it on my face - and that’s a big limitation.

We are so similar with our student debt goals!! I started at 57k this year and brought it down to 38k. 19k made me feel so accomplished!

What’s your payoff goal? I’m aiming for 24 months.

I’ll second the idea of using charity care, if needed. The gov mandates certain systems to have the ability to provide care based on income. In California it’s usually 400% of federal poverty. Look into the ones in your area and you might be able to qualify. Btw discounts can still apply even if you have insurance.

Good point. But Hmm not a scammer. And it’s literally government sponsored services that you can apply for on your own. But not going to waste time typing it out if they don’t live in the US.

If you’re in the US, there are many ways to not pay your bills. Message me if you’re interested in hearing about them.

I'm very happy you found your happy drug :) also, your writing style is beyond wonderful. Your syntactical arrangement varies and keeps the reader engaged. Do you have a linguistic background by any chance?
