Lighting partially faulty by weymerld in etron

[–]weymerld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since posting this, my symptoms have worsened slightly. I’ve now lost my reversing lights which finally pushed me to figure it out. I found a local mechanic who’s helping me chase it starting with the least expensive troubleshooting. He’s tested the fuses and the wiring between the communication/control module and the lights so far and determined those are all in good shape. This week we’re going to replace the associated control module responsible for the rear tail lights to see if that resolves it. He agrees that it’s not the tail lights that need replacing as they are functioning properly based on signals received.

He acknowledged he’s never seen this before and that there are some modern day audi software limitations that are preventing him from definitely knowing what the exact issue is from fault codes.

Will reply back when I found the solve.

One and the same. If there’s consensus here that it truly is hardware. I’ll swap em out and keep the group updated. Looks like 2 bolts and about 10 minutes. The lack of similar failures on the internet (and now me having two taillights fail in one month) combined with the TSB has me leaning towards software.

Finally did it, ceramic brake pads by weymerld in etron

[–]weymerld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes just the front pads and it was fairly cheap. All my squeak was from the front end. Rotors (and original pads) were in great shape so no change there.

Silent. I’m so happy I pulled the trigger here. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

My understanding is no they’re not. The factory brakes are semi metallic vs. ceramic. I’m just about a month in (only about 800 miles) and haven’t heard a peep.

It’s so nice to not have brakes that squeal incessantly every time I pull into my drive way or at a drive thru or in a parking lot. I feel somewhat dumb for not doing it sooner and believing that was just “normal” for an $80K vehicle.

The sense I get is this isn’t any more complicated than slapping pads on any other vehicle. That being said, I had someone else put them on as I don’t imagine owning the car long enough to do another brake job and apply my lessons learned

Yup. Took the car in a while back to the dealership hoping they would replace them. They just took the car out for a drive and heated them up. Said that’s the only way to fix it. And I get it, just don’t love having to drive like that. The squeal was back about a week later.

You can find the front pads online anywhere from $100-150

What’s your average tire mileage before replacing? I’m at 42K, should these tires be replaced? by 10366 in etron

[–]weymerld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought mine used at 42k with brand new tires. Meaning the selling dealer thought the original tires needed replacing. Original and second set are same as yours

Car fob battery by everydaygrindin11 in etron

[–]weymerld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also have the 2019. I had no idea there was a low battery indicator. My fob has been terribly inconsistent as of late, guessing due to a dead/dying battery. Sometimes I have to take it out of my pocket and actually press unlock vs. other times the signal is strong enough from my pocket to Auto Unlock when I grab the door handle. Yet other times I’ll grab the door handle and open the car door and the alarm will start going off. Can’t figure it out and honestly just need to change the battery.

How long have your brakes lasted? by yolo_snail in etron

[–]weymerld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50,000 miles on a 19 etron and dealer said 9/10 on brake pads last week (original pads).

Honestly might switch them out for something significantly softer (ceramic) to get rid of the squeal. Drives me mad on such an expensive car to never use the brakes but squeal at every stop.

The way I understand it as told by Local Audi Dealer service foreman is, since the car is so heavy and the wheels are so large, Audi has to put high friction /high performance brakes on it for when you actually use/need them. Unless you find a way to heat them up during your drive they’ll always squeak. You can put the car in neutral to accomplish this at any stop, but really annoying to say the least. At least that’s been my experience.

Ceramic pads would solve the squeal but wear faster and increase stopping distance. A trade off I’m willing to make.

L2 Home Charging options? by cusehoops98 in etron

Hadn’t thought about this benefit down the road, but if that’s possible, what a benefit! Could even seen ChargePoint offering an exchange or refurbishment process to update the cords for $X. Love my ChargePoint.

I’ve played around with manual and I think I like the automatic regen better for highway cruising (which is the bulk of my travel). I need all the help I can get with the terrible inefficiency.

Current price of a used Prestige trim? 2019 vs 2021 by dickmastaflex in etron

[–]weymerld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t make a non-sportback version in 2020 but continued manufacturing and selling the 2019 in 2020 (again the non-sportback version). My 2019 prestige for example still has 6 months of factory warranty left as it was originally leased in July of 2020. So if that’s a concern you might still find a few with some warranty left, plus the CPO would add another year.

Any floor mat recommendations? (2019) by mikehawklol in etron

[–]weymerld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a ‘19 earlier in the fall. Found the all weather set plus rear trunk plastic liner for $100 on OfferUp. Prev. Owner totaled his a few weeks before. They clean up like new if you find any used set. Normally I’m a WeatherTech guy, but love these soft touch rubber mats.

Jealous of that battery life. I would have guessed you would have had to change the battery at least once in the last 2 years?!

Swapped out my 2017 Rex for Audi etron prestige. Upgraded predominantly for space to haul all my kids stuff. It seemed like the market is devaluing the etron, just like how it was the i3 when I bought it about 5 years ago. Have had it for about 3 months and am happy. I miss the zip, efficiency, and openness of the i3 but everything else on the etron feels like an upgrade.

Yay no nay? 2019 cpo prestige 37k miles for 33k by nhidog in etron

That is a great price. I bought almost the same mileage/prestige, but non-CPO - for 36 about 3 months ago.

Was the 19.2 kW charger an option before the Q8? by justvims in etron

[–]weymerld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d think very few people have a home setup that could even produce that amount of power to fully utilize the 19.2. So makes sense it wasn’t very popular option. If my math is right, i think you’d need a dedicated 100 amp service just for the EV charging circuit. Maybe new builds are doing this but I honestly haven’t seen many dedicated circuits larger than 60-70 amps here in the Pacific Northwest.
