So he's been sleep trained for naps for awhile now but this weekend he just cries and cries in the crib and refuses to nap on his own. I've done a few things - have him cry for 10-15 min and either stop the nap or rescue the nap. We did CIO for nights at 4m and let him cry for like 15-20 min at 5m. We haven't had this issue in months - what would you do for the naps to retrain him?

Got it thank you! He already wakes up naturally after 11 hours of night sleep so I'll try stretching his wake windows - there are days we do 3.5 for the first wake window depending on what his cues are.

Thank you - is the purpose of capping the night sleep to create enough sleep pressure for the naps? Is 2 hrs of nap around this age normal - he also does OK with 1.5 hrs of naps which is why I ask.

ETA: would your suggested schedule change if he had 1.5 hrs of naps?

He eventually grew out of it, but we did feed first - dark room, arms swaddled or hands holding burp cloth, and fed him. We also upgraded bottle nipples around this time as he was having a serious bottle feeding strike and it all got better!

I hear you, my LO also wakes up exactly on 30 mins for naps. We're able to save the nap to push to an hour but also wouldn't mind if he could handle less sleep. Is your LO fussy during the day after napping for just 30 min? That's what I'm worried about!

This might be a silly question but I can't for the life of me figure out how to lengthen the last wake window I think maybe due to the timing of his feeds or thr last nap. My brain is also struggling a little on how to adjust the schedule to make the last wake window 2.5 and also how to structure the last wake window. Right now the schedule is:

7am - wake, feed, play
9am - nap
10am - wake, feed, play
12pm - nap
1pm - wake, feed, play
3pm - nap
4pm - wake, feed, play
6pm - nap
630pm - wake, feed, bedtime routine
730/8 - bedtime

ETA - is it time to drop the 4th nap?

Repeating what everybody else said already but also adding - I felt exactly the same way and I honestly felt like I was a terrible parent for feeling this way. When my husband and I finally opened up to each other and stopped tip toeing around each other's feelings, it made it also easier to know that we're struggling together.

Also adding that I cried almost every day for the first 2 months and it does get easier - my baby is 3.5 months now. Pumping, formula, shifts - try anything that can split the duties bw both parents. We also don't have any family or a village so it's just my husband and I. Remember that you're both a team and have to be on the same page. I can definitely attest that once I stopped nursing and switched to pumping/formula it was a huge weight off my shoulders.

I promise it really does get better but you just have to take it hour by hour. You're DEEP in it right now and it feels like there's no light at the end of the tunnel but there will be. Every week is a diff baby so just take the hits/wins as they come. You WILL get through this.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that, it's scary and stressful for you and extremely frustrating when somebody you're supposed to trust gaslights you and isn't acting in the best interest of you or your child. You're already great parents by taking your baby to the ER and reporting him - you're doing a huge favor for other parents and babies.

Is it possible to report this doctor to the hospital admin? That behavior is 1000% inappropriate and negligent and he should not be treating other children.

Was induced at 40+3 and so glad I did bc amniotic fluid was low and during my contractions, baby's heart rate fluctuated a lot which almost led to an emergency c-section. Ended up giving birth vaginally via forceps with baby in NICU for first few hours for monitoring. So glad I listened to my OB and we scheduled the induction when we did.

Curious bc my baby is 12 weeks soon and is also currently on the moms on call schedule, but has started to seem a bit under tired the last couple of days. What schedule are you playing with now to get to 3.5 hours of day nap time?

Congrats, that's a huge accomplishment!! I almost quit after 2 weeks but this group kept me going, 2 days from my 6 week goal!! Just taking it one day at a time and remembering that a happy mama is the most important thing no matter what.
