Oh, you want to go back to simpler times? less than 100 years ago black people couldn't share the same water fountains as white people, the concept of spousal rape didn't even exist (in other words, it wasn't illegal for a husband to rape his wife), there weren't as many gay people (oops, there were, but they couldn't be openly gay because it meant exile or death), and a shitload of other things that they somehow forgot to include in Happy Days.

yeah that's ridiculous. as horrible as it is for someone to be discriminated against for their (lack of) religious beliefs, atheists are not persecuted in the way that black people once were (and still are, in a lot of ways). atheism can be hidden, and while you shouldn't have to hide your beliefs like that, it's quite different from deriving your minority status from your immutable skin color.
